Position Description

Job Title: Principal
FLSA/Job Status: Exempt; FullTime
Reporting Functions: Superintendent of Catholic Education


Nativity BVM High School located in Pottsville PA. is seeking a dynamic and innovative educational leader with a strong commitment to Catholic Education to serve as Principal effective with the 202526 school year.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leading and directing the schools religious and academic programs.

  • Establishment and promotion of high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and behavior.

  • Professional development of teachers and consultation with teachers regarding instructional practices classroom management and school procedures.

  • Supervision of all aspects of the schools operation including facilities maintenance and operations food service transportation fundraising enrollment and tuition.

  • Working with the Board of Directors to ensure sufficient resources sound fiscal management longterm financial stability and facilities improvements through direct oversight of business affairs operations and advancement programs.

  • Representing the school to all its constituents including faculty staff students parents local pastors alumni neighbor and business communities.

  • Developing relationships within the community especially as it relates to the fostering of current and future contributors to the longterm fiscal viability of the school.

  • Exhibiting the skills necessary to manage a diverse group of people in order to allow each of them to contribute to the welfare of the school to their maximum potential.

  • Having the ability to be flexible in ones attitude and approach to daily events to be equipped to address the unexpected situations that will occur frequently in a school environment.

  • Any other duties assigned by the Superintendent and School Board.

Additional Condition of Employment:

Candidate must be a practicing Catholic in good standing have a deep knowledge of the Catholic faith and agree to live by the tenets of the Catholic faith including in lifestyle and on personal social media.



Educational Requirements:

  • Masters Degree in Education or School Administration;

  • Principal certification or ability to obtain within 1 year;

  • 5 years of experience in school administration.

Other Requirements:

  • Practicing Catholic with a commitment to the principles of Catholic education.

  • Demonstrated successful budgetary and fiscal management.

  • Leadership and public relations ability.

  • PRIOR TO INTERVIEW: Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH) Pennsylvania Child Abuse History and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvanias Act 153 of 2014 (No less than 1 year old. As well as attendance at the online Protecting Gods Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job employees are regularly required to sit stand walk and stoop. Must be able to talk and hear both in person and by telephone. Use of hands to perform standard classroom duties and use office equipment is required. Reaching and lifting up to 10 pounds is also required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by the means of spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities.


Working Conditions: Normal school setting Fulltime Monday Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. with occasional evening and weekend commitments; Contracted position. May be required to assist with special duties and work outside the normal school day to attend schoolrelated events.
