Job Description

Job Summary: The Field Service Technician 2 provides facetoface customer service located at an offsite location and is responsible for minor to moderate troubleshooting diagnosing repairing and reconditioning of various light and heavy construction equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies procedures and standards
  • Performs minor to moderate repairs in the field
  • Performs troubleshooting and diagnoses of equipment malfunctions and failures
  • Removes and install parts disassembles and assembles basic components tests make adjustments and verifies proper operation of all repairs and adjustments
  • Prepares and completes all jobrelated documents writes service reports orders parts and maintains clear customer records; in addition accesses databases required to complete job
  • Operates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates
  • Maintains service vehicle inspection records daily inspections and driver logs as required by the Department of Transportation
  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations
  • Maintains all company equipment tools and the vehicle in a good clean and working order
  • Communicates job progress to supervisor and customer as needed
  • Completes assigned jobs and tasks to meet flat rate time and rework standards
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers needs
  • Completes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner
  • Projects professionalism with both internal and external customers including personal appearance; may be relied upon to act as a mentor to lower level Technicians
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of safe work procedures and practices
  • Basic knowledge of equipment and tools including their designs uses repair and maintenance
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulics transmissions engines undercarriage electrical Tier 4 EPA Systems.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software related hardware and basic knowledge of machine electronic systems
  • Exceptional skills in customer service
  • Moderate diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Planning and organizing skills to prioritize and plan work activities; uses time efficiently; plans for additional resources
  • Operation and control skills of equipment or systems
  • Equipment selection skills to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to operate a crane and forklift and obtain required certifications/licenses
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under fastpaced time constraining circumstances
  • Ability to operate hand tools power tools pneumatic tools and equipment used in mechanical repair
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp manipulate or assemble very small objects


Education and Experience:

  • More than two years of heavy equipment experience required; three or more years preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • MSHA certification preferred
  • Air conditioning certification preferred
  • Crane/Rigger certifications preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Travel:

  • Travel required with a possibility of an overnight stay


Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Drivers license required
  • Ability to obtain a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
  • Must have an acceptable driving record
  • Must own required tools to perform repairs


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lbs
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity coordination and stamina
  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
  • Routinely reacts to visual auditory and other signals including alarms and instructions and is required to visually inspect work


Work Environment:

  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
  • Regularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts and noise level may be loud at times
  • May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather heat cold and humidity
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals dust steam highpressure water and high speed rotating equipment
  • Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places
