Job Description

Permanent role term time only full or part time hours considered (full time hours 35 per week)

Role:

Reporting to the Headteacher with responsibility for implementing provisions to support children at the school with SEN and providing professional guidance to staff parent and external agencies Supporting and advising staff on appropriate resources and techniques to adopt to ensure children with SEN receive high quality teaching to help them achieve their full potential.

Key Accountabilities

General

  • Be aware of different learning difficulties and disabilities which are classified as SEND and provide equity to each child depending on their own needs
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of the schools SEND action plan and policy
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of the schools Mental Health action plan and policy
  • Carry out fourpart cycle assessments of pupils with SEND to identify needs and monitor progress including observations in the classroom and meetings with teachers and parents
  • Implement access arrangements for GCSE s including relevant assessments and paperwork.
  • Work with classroom teachers the school leadership team parents and relevant external agencies to develop implement and monitor individual support/learning plans
  • Build rapport with the pupils to set personalised education health and care (EHC) plans which include social and academic targets
  • Provide termly updates on pupil progress through individual education plans or EHCP trackers.
  • Chair annual reviews for EHCP s to provide relevant agencies parents and the LEA with updates on the pupils progression towards targets
  • Develop learning resources to help with pupils development
  • Support teachers to develop and implement effective teaching and behaviour management approaches in the classroom
  • Understand Steiner Waldorf pedagogy and how this might impact the interventions offered
  • Make referrals and liaise with professionals outside of the school within local authorities and health care services including psychologists speech and language therapists and occupational therapists
  • Provide advice and training to classroom teachers on supporting pupils with SEND and offer further guidance if needed
  • Manage and advise on the school SEND budget and resources for SEN provision including lawful spending of the EHCP topup funding.
  • Develop and maintain systems for keeping pupil records ensuring information is accurate and up to date including an accurate SEND register
  • Analyse school local and national data creating a summary for the trustees (SEND on a page).
  • Keep up to date with national and local policies related to SEND and cascade information to colleagues.
  • Performance manage the learning support assistant team carry out reviews and ensure LSAs are allocated appropriately across the school.
  • Pastoral lead across the school supporting some of our more vulnerable pupils.
  • Deputy safeguarding lead analysing incidents and attending regular safeguarding meetings.
  • Monitor/Make Early Help referrals and monitor the progress of these.
  • Monitor exclusions and in consultation with the leadership team evaluate whether our school can meet the needs of a child.
  • Work with the admissions officer to gain information about new pupils to ensure we can meet their needs.
  • Ensuring that school policies and procedures are in line with the latest governmental SEN policies and regulations
  • Preparing and leading SEN training for Teachers and Teaching Assistants

Additional Responsibilities

  • Member of both the Senior Management Team and Educational Management Group which meet weekly
  • Participate and attend staff training days/sessions
  • Comply with all school policies and procedures especially safeguarding health & safety and IT policy.
  • Participate in breaktime supervision and any other reasonable management instructions.

Statutory Requirements

  • Responsibility for electronic record keeping to meet both statutory and school requirements e.g school management systems Safeguarding systems
  • Follow the schools behaviour policy when interacting with children
  • Ensure all safeguarding concerns are recorded in accordance with the schools safeguarding policy
