GVSU Omni is currently seeking an adjunct instructor for data acumen programming to teach Visualization of Data and Information a course primarily offered within the Department of Defense and extended to community interest. This course is offered in collaboration with the College of Computing through Omni and will be delivered in a hybrid format with inperson sessions held at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek.
We are seeking one adjunct instructor for this course. The adjunct instructor for Omni will report to the Assistant Director of Faculty for the Southwest Michigan Region located in our Battle Creek office.
Compensation: Up to $3500 for a 3 credit course; commensurate with experience.
Primary Duties:
- Review the course syllabus ensuring the alignment of the programs objectives and learning outcomes.
- Design the structure of the data visualization course including lectures assignments projects and assessments considering the adult learners varying experience and schedules.
- Facilitate interactive activities or labs where students practice creating visualizations using tools and programming languages (e.g. R Python Excel or Tableau).
- Foster a collaborative learning environment encouraging peertopeer interaction group projects and the sharing of ideas and feedback.
- Return graded assignments and feedback in a timely manner to facilitate continuous learning and improvement dually to ensure that all grades and student records are entered into the universitys learning management system.
- Adhere to all university policies including those related to academic integrity student conduct and course requirements.
- Regularly update students with course announcements deadlines and any changes to the course schedule or content.
- Provide engaging and interactive lectures incorporating examples of realworld data and information visualization techniques.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelors Degree (or higher) in Computer Science or related fields
- AND
- 3 years of related field/work experience.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong data visualization and analytics experience
- Prior expertise in computing HCI cognitive sciences and statistics
- Must have taken graduate Information Visualization courses
- Expertise in programming languages including but not limited to: JavaScript D3 R Python Tableau and PowerBI
- Ability to understand conceptualize and explain core and applied computer science subjects.
- Additional training or certification is required to teach online or hybrid designated courses. Training or certification will need to be completed prior to the start of the semester.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Masters Degrees (or higher) in Computer Science or related fields.
- Demonstrated success in delivering instruction in an online/hybrid format.
- Specifically for CIS 320: Experience teaching the following programming languages: JavaScript D3 R Python Tableau and PowerBI
- Experience with 3D/ Spatial Data and an integrative understanding of AI.
