Job Summary/DescriptionThe classroom assistant to the Montessori lead teacher is responsible for assisting within the classroom. The assistant teacher shall support the schools efforts toward achieving and maintaining Montessori professional standards. Additionally the assistant teacher shall be a model of professionalism for parents children and assistant teacher is supportive of the individual needs of the children in accordance with the schools mission and vision. Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide and supervise a healthy emotional social intellectual and physical environment Encourage and facilitate student growth and developmentConsistently support and maintain classroom managementSupervise all activities to ensure the safety of the children at all timesCommunicate with the children in a clear concise manner; maintain positive interactions with the children in a manner that is appropriateFoster the development of independence and collaboration Model and encourage the development of problem solving Work with the lead teacher to assist in changing Montessori materials as neededImplement changes in thematic units based upon season and schools curriculumCommunicate with parents effectively in both a verbal and written format. Communicate clearly and respectfully with staff members. All communication with staff members shall be in a professional and ethical manner. Collaborate and provide lessons that adhere to the Montessori curriculum Prepare organize replenish and maintain classroom materials and suppliesFollow the recommendations and requirements of the state regulators Department of Early Childhood and Care (EEC)Follow the procedures and protocols found within the teachers handbook. Examples of these include the schools evacuation plan and health and and participate in all school events in an effort to build communityEssential FunctionsFrequent bending lifting and reaching are required. Regular attendance is mandatory. Attends and participates in all school meetings. Attends and participates in professional development Collaborates with the teams to share and implement curriculumParticipate in conferences with families according to school schedule Responds to colleagues and families in a timely mannerProfessional DevelopmentAttend and participate in your personal informal and formal evaluationsComplete mandated 20 hour training as prescribed by Department of Early Childhood and Care (EEC)Independently pursues opportunities for professional development. The American Montessori Society (AMS) offers free workshops Minimum QualificationsHigh school graduate or GED. An associates or a bachelors degree in early childhood is preferred from an accredited college or universityExperience working with children ages 2.9 6 years within an early childcare settingHolds or willing to hold assistant teacher qualifications under the EEC (Department of Early Education Center) Successful candidates will need to pass a background CORI check and remain current on First Aid/CPR certifications
