The Payroll Clerk is responsible for preparing the payroll checks. The position requires skill in reviewing preliminary computer printouts as a part of payroll processing. The Payroll Clerk is involved in daily answering of telephone inquiries and personal visits. The Payroll Clerk is responsible for processing a portion of Human Resource change and timekeeper documents and data for classified and certified personnel.
Scope of Responsibility:
- Processes new and balance pay assignments.
- Reviews timekeeping sheets and supporting documents for absences and positive pay accuracy.
- Processes all changes in employee status which may cause a salary change.
- Daily payroll balancing by gross pay and head count.
- Answers all payroll inquiries related to the assigned locations providing cross coverage during absences.
- Assists in the proper distribution of payroll checks.
- Assists in reconciling leave balance docks and refunds.
- Maintains accurate records of employee timekeeping and leave balance.
- Educates trains local timekeepers to insure accuracy and timeliness of payroll related items.
- Performance improvement through report updates and training.
- Reviews data and reports prior to cutting payroll to insure accuracy in the absence of the Executive Director or Payroll.
- Facilitates performance improvement by working with timekeepers Human Resources Management Information with Executive Director of Payroll.
- Reviews timekeeping sheets and supporting documents for absences and positive pay accuracy.
- Adding appropriate pay assignments for bus drivers entering bus rental docks driver sub pay driver/attendants extra hourly pay and fuel docks.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Payroll or the Chief Financial Officer.

- 1 year of progressively increasing experience in payroll.

- High degree of professionalism with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities while consistently demonstrating sound judgment and disciplined thinking.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office (Excel Word PowerPoint) at an intermediate level.
- Mandatory Payroll testing required.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Two 2 years of payroll experience in a school system or other local educational agency.
- One 1 year college units/credits in accounting.
Physical Involvement:
- Must be able to operate office equipment.
- Standing walking reaching bending and lifting up to 10 pounds is required.
