Assistant Professor of Practice Human Computer Interaction

Job Description:

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Human Computer Interaction (HCI) program at Iowa State University is seeking to fill a 1/4time position to teach two courses in HCI annually. Topics include user experience research in industry emerging practices in HCI and AIs role in HCI.

This parttime term faculty position is 25 fulltime equivalent (FTE) 9month position with an initial 1year term. This position will have an administrative home department within Psychology.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Human Computer Interaction or a closely related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Human Computer Interaction or a closely related field

  • Industry experience in the discipline including user experience

  • Record of teaching

The study of the relationship between humans and computers has quickly become one of the most dynamic and significant fields of technical investigation. Iowa State Universitys graduate program in Human Computer Interaction (HCI) is an established leader in this rapidly evolving field making strategic investments to accelerate research attract talented students and faculty and expand the program of study.

Interdisciplinary by definition HCI impacts nearly every area of our lives. The HCI graduate major reflects a broad recognition in academia and industry of the need to train researchers to meet the challenges created by todays breakneck pace of technological progress. HCI graduate students benefit from interacting with ISU faculty from departments representing every college in the University as well as researchers at the Virtual Reality Applications Center.
