Job Description

Reports to:Principal

Duty Day: 187 Days

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Pay Grade: I00

Date Revised: 0723

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree from accredited university Masters preferred

Reading and/or math specialization preferred

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned

A minimum of four years of experience teaching reading/math preferred

Knowledge of reading and/or math accelerated instructional strategies

Ability to administer and interpret reading/math assessment instruments

Attend professional learning and utilize appropriately assigned high quality instructional materials for the student and/or student groups assigned

Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills

Physically able to monitor student behavior and academic progress and meet other student needs as required

Physically able to move about the room to perform formative assessments and adequately facilitate small and large group instruction

Primary Purpose:

Provide reading and/or math accelerated instruction to atrisk students.

Utilize assessment results to identify specific accelerated learning needs of students served.

Develop and deliver reading/math intervention plans to accelerate reading/math growth for students who qualify for services.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Provide reading/math intervention to students most at risk of failing to attain grade level expectations.
    2. Administer diagnostic reading/math instruments when needed to students most at risk of not performing at grade level in reading/math.
    3. Interpret reading/math assessment instruments to determine specific accelerated learning needs of students served.
    4. Develop instructional plans to meet the individualized needs of identified students.
    5. Monitor reading/math progress and growth of identified students.
    6. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process when appropriate.
    7. Assist classroom teachers in analyzing reading/math assessments and in designing and delivering reading/math interventions.
    8. Participate in collaborative conversations to make instructional and placement decisions for struggling students.
    9. Provide parent support on how to improve childrens literacy and math development in the home.
    10. Attend ongoing staff development in the areas of reading/math intervention and accelerated instruction.
    11. Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents as required.
    12. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of atrisk students.
    13. Manage student behavior according to board policies administrative regulations and IEPs.
    14. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect atrisk students equipment materials and facilities.
    1. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues students parents and community members
    2. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
    3. Demonstrate behavior that is professional ethical and responsible.
    4. Keep informed of and comply with state district and school regulations and policies for teachers.
    5. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
    6. Articulate the districts mission and goals in areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
    7. Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.

Equipment Used:

Computer FAX copier overhead projector DVD/VCR tape recorder and other specialized equipment that is particularly unique to the teaching assignment.

Working Conditions:

Standing for long periods of time. Frequent stooping bending pulling and pushing ie relocating stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom equipment. The level of mobility required depends upon the grade level of teaching assignment(s) and requirements thereof. Must maintain emotional control under stress.
