Since 1971 HamptonNewport News Community Services Board has provided a comprehensive continuum of highquality essential and communitybased services to citizens of the Peninsula who are living with a mental illness developmental disabilities and substance use disorders.
As a Peer Recovery Specialist at the HamptonNewport News Community Services Board you will play a vital role in providing peer support and advocating for individuals navigating their recovery journey. This position involves a variety of responsibilities including assisting individuals with their physical financial social and personal needs while also promoting successful community living. You will be instrumental in monitoring mental status linking clients to essential services and offering daily living support fostering a holistic approach to recovery. Your experience as a consumer of mental health and/or substance use services will empower you to build supportive trusting relationships with those you assist.
With strong communication skills and a deep understanding of the mental health system you will help others develop the skills needed for independent living. As you work autonomously in a fastpaced environment your commitment to excellence and safety will ensure a healthy supportive atmosphere for both clients and colleagues.
To excel as a Peer Recovery Specialist at the HamptonNewport News Community Services Board candidates must possess a unique blend of personal experience and professional skills. You must have experienced a mental health and/or substance use condition and achieved a minimum of 12 months of successful recovery demonstrating progress in managing your condition and building a fulfilling life. Completion of the DBHDS 72hour Peer Recovery Specialist Training within six months of hire is mandatory for the Peer Recovery Specialist I role. A successful candidate will exhibit strong communication skills the ability to foster trusting relationships and the skills necessary to utilize community resources effectively.
Selfmotivation autonomous decisionmaking and a commitment to ongoing personal and professional growth are crucial for supporting individuals on their recovery journeys.
