Provides professional genetic counseling and hereditary cancer risk assessment to those with cancer and those who have a family history of cancer. Coordinates communication between the patient and multidisciplinary team in the identification and evaluation of cancer related genetic conditions.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
*All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise*
1. Responsible for obtaining analyzing counseling and following up on patients and their familys risk for cancer related genetics conditions. Documents all patient interactions and provides consult notes to patients and their physician.
2. Collects records and evaluates personal & family histories interpreting data and assisting in determining possible problem areas.
3. Patient education regarding hereditary cancer risk and explain natural history of disease to patient and family.
4. Identifies and coordinates genetic lab tests and other diagnostic tests. Discuss implications of genetic test results to patient and family to provide patientcentered counseling education and guidance.
5. Provides options for medical management and screening based on established guidelines and risk assessment models.
6. Participates in applicable Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and PCI meetings.
7. Identifies community resources to provide medical educational financial and psychosocial support.
8. Provide coverage for satellite clinics within NW Ohio and SE Michigan; possibly including teleogenetic appointments.
Education: Masters degree in Human Genetics Genetic Counseling or a related field is required and accredited by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.
Skills: Strong attention to detail thorough consistent and accurate in data entry. Possess good verbal and writing skills for communication. Able to concentrate on task for long periods of time and work well under pressure. Demonstrate strong computer skills with spreadsheets and databases.
Years of Experience: New Graduates encouraged to apply
License: Ability to obtain and maintain licensure in genetic counseling by the Ohio State Medical Board is required. Valid Drivers License is required.
Certification: Must be Board Certified/Board Eligible by the American Board of Genetic Counseling
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Years of Experience: Experience in Oncology Genetics; Experience with Epic
WORKING CONDITIONS
Personal Protective Equipment: Possible exposures to communicable diseases and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
Physical Demands: Long periods of sitting and working on computer.
