This position will be responsible for providing intensive support to a caseload of approx. 300 students attending Lower Columbia College in our Healthcare Programs.
Who you are:We are looking for an energetic and innovative individual who has strong communication interpersonal and intentional active listening skills. This person must be studentfocused and believe in the mission of community college. The Career Pathways Advisor must be someone who is organized highly collaborative and enjoys working with their colleagues to boost student success.
About the team:The Advising department is a team of advisors who work alongside other Student Services professionals and faculty to onboard new students and improve student persistence. One of the key roles this position will have is helping all students overcome barriers and empowering them to see their contributions and value to the learning environment of the college through their unique viewpoints and experiences.
The Career Pathways Advisor position is 40 hours per week. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. This position is hybrid the work is mostly on campus but there is some opportunity to work remotely if desired. This position is exempt but eligible for overtime under FLSA and reports to the Director of Advising & OneStop.
Manage a caseload of approximately 300 advisees within one or more assigned Career Pathways; duties include but are not limited to:
Conducting individual and group new student advising appointments
Monitoring each students enrollment
Following up on early alerts issued to students
Proactively connecting with students throughout the quarter especially new students
Developing and implementing appropriate intervention strategies for students under Academic Concern or Notice
Collaborating with faculty advisors to create twoyear educational plans with each student
Assisting students in clarification of educational career and life goals
Evaluating and determining the transfer of credit and researching course descriptions to determine transferability in an unofficial capacity
Leveraging LCCs current advising technology tools and practices to consistently and accurately document student interactions notes case outcomes educational planning and appointment summaries
Collaborate with faculty advisors regarding a shared student caseload of advisees and develop and maintain strong working relationship with academic deans
Understand requirements and successfully advise for multiple degree and certificate programs
Serve as a secondary advisor to a career pathway in the absence of the primary advisor
Assist in student retention and onboarding when appropriate at the One Stop Center & actively participate in the LCC onboarding process where needed
Support college efforts in promoting student financial literacy
Coordinate and/or promote special events such as College Transfer Fairs Career Fairs multicultural student outreach etc.
Understand and apply the institutions interpretation of FERPA rules for the release of student information to faculty parents and students
Participate in and assist with the online Advising Hub
Disseminate transfer and/or academic information to the campus community via workshops individual and group advising or print email and social media
Collaborate with faculty staff and other departments across campus to develop programs and workshops for students
Represent the college at community educational and outreach events
Assist with student retention with an emphasis on satisfactory academic progress using current and new student interventions or the appropriate college or community referral
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students faculty staff and community partners
Regularly integrate learning from professional development
May participate in special projects committees and workgroups on campus and/or at the state and national level
Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience working with student populations
Strong technology background with ability to work with complex systems in a fastpaced environment
Selfstarter with high degree of motivation energy flexibility and willingness to innovate
Strong oral written and interpersonal communication skills
Sound organizational and problemsolving abilities
Serviceoriented approach and positive cando attitude with a student first mentality
Demonstrate cultural competence including awareness and understanding of historically underrepresented populations and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity diversity and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree in Student Development or similar area of study
Experience in higher education
Bilingual or fluency in other languages
