Summary: Physical Science Laboratory is looking for a facilities technician to join our team!
Classification Summary:
Performs a wide range of facilities services tasks including nontechnical maintenance of plumbing electrical heating ventilating and/or air conditioning facilities and equipment at a level not requiring formal licensure. May be required to perform tasks of other unlicensed trades such as a light equipment operator carpenter painter and/or locksmith.
Classification Standard Duties:
Monitors maintains and performs standard repairs to building electrical facilities and systems such as tubes fixtures switches photo cells and outlets; assists licensed electricians with nontechnical repairs as appropriate. Monitors performance of heating ventilation and cooling systems; performs standard repair/replacement of components as appropriate and nontechnical maintenance tasks such as cleaning of heating and cooling fan coil units and adjustment of system controls. Performs nontechnical maintenance of plumbing systems to include standard repair of leaking fixtures cleaning obstructed waste lines installing water coolers and/or performing nontechnical modifications to plumbing and water supply systems; assists licensed plumbers as appropriate. Performs carpentry maintenance tasks including routine sheetrock/drywall installation and/or repair window roof cabinet and countertop replacement painting and texturing and door and hardware installation; paints interior and exterior finishes as appropriate. May assist in maintaining water treatment and storage system. May perform general maintenance custodial and trash removal tasks. May repair kitchen equipment. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Documents facilities maintenance requirements; maintains appropriate records of work performed. Performs snow removal as required. Performs miscellaneous jobrelated duties as assigned.
Required Education Experience Certification/License Equivalency
Required Education:None; Required Experience:One 1 year of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.; Equivalency:Any equivalent combination of education training and/or experience as approved by Human Resource Services.; Required Certification/License:
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of one or more building trades.; SKILLS:Skill in the use of computers preferably in a PC Windowsbased operating environment. Records maintenance skills.; ABILITIES:Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures. Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade. Ability to repair and maintain appliances and heating and cooling equipment. Ability to read understand follow and enforce safety procedures.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Installation and maintenance repairs. Assists with maintenance of HVAC plumbing and electrical systems. Performs carpentry maintenance jobs such as interior and exterior painting texturing window and door installations and repairs of cabinets and furniture. Assist with replacing of lights fixtures switches outlets photo cells tubes contactors and motor control knowledge. Erection of new walls and demolition of walls tape texture and paint. Roofing repair and maintenance. Monitor ventilation of heating and cooling systems. Will repair or replace parts as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of one or more building trades. License or certificates preferred but not required.
Special Requirements of the Position
Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position is subject to random drug testing in compliance with its drugfree workplace requirements. This position has been established as a primary key position under the All Hazard Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) and is essential to operational continuity and/or recovery. In an emergency situation primary key positions are required to report to work unless directed by supervisor or public safety authorities not to report for health and safety reasons.
