Job Description

HarvardWestlake School Library Assistant

The HarvardWestlake Upper School Mudd Library is seeking a proactive organized and creative parttime Library Assistant to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in both independent and collaborative environments enjoys engaging with students and is eager to contribute to a dynamic academic setting. The Mudd Library is a vibrant studentfocused space and a central gathering spot on campus. As a Library Assistant youll play a key role in cultivating a sense of community and making the library a welcoming and engaging place for all.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a friendly and supportive presence in the library ensuring a respectful and productive communityoriented environment.
  • Assist students faculty and staff with circulation services library resources and technology support (online resources digital tools printers etc..
  • Support essential library functions including maintaining circulation records assisting with collection development processing new materials and conducting inventory.
  • Perform miscellaneous administrative functions in support of upper school offices such as attendance and student affairs.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

  • Education: A bachelors degree in a related field with experience working with diverse young adult communities (grades 1012 and educators.
  • Library Experience: Prior experience in libraries is a plus but not required. A strong customer service mindset the ability to anticipate needs and a willingness to learn are essential.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent judgment patience flexibility and a talent for engaging with both teens and professionals.
  • Passion for Literature & Learning: A love for young adult and adult literature and a desire to foster meaningful connections around what libraries do.
  • Adaptability & Initiative: Comfortable working in a fastpaced academic environment balancing multiple responsibilities at one time as well as the ability to work independently.

We are an independent school consisting of two campuses soon to be three located in Los Angeles California. We have approximately 1600 curious thoughtful and inspiring students enrolled in grades seven through twelve 325 fulltime employees and more than 400 parttime employees.

Compensation: Compensation for this role is $25.00 to $35.00 per hour depending on experience.

Scheduling & Hours

  • This is a parttime position requiring 1520 hours per week during the school year.
  • The library is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM and flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • Occasional evening or special event coverage may be requested.
