JOB POSTING

SUPPORT SERVICES SHELVER

PartTimeNonExempt

Reports to: Support Services Supervisor


Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Sort and load carts for shelving; shelve and shift materials in the public areas; shelf read; report problems with shelf organization to the Support Services Supervisor.
  2. Assist with opening and closing procedures for the Support Services Department.
  3. Assist with the overall maintenance and orderliness of the Librarys collections display areas and department areas.
  4. Assist other Support Services staff with operations of the ILS Module and the AST System.
  5. Direct patrons to reference staff for assistance.

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Assist Librarians with special projects with the approval of the Support Services Supervisor.
  2. Retain knowledge and stay uptodate on current Library policies and procedures.
  3. Enforce Library policies relevant to public use; respond to emergencies and provide support as needed; act quickly exercising good judgment.
  4. Communicate effectively with patrons coworkers and professional colleagues.
  5. Work positively and collaboratively across departments to accomplish departmental and Library goals.
  6. Foster and promote diversity equity and inclusion in the workplace and the community.
  7. Adapt and respond to multiple priorities interruptions and demands; resolve problems in a positive manner.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications & Skills:

  1. Must be 16 years of age or older. Applicants 1617 years of age must have an eligible work permit on file before employment can start.
  2. Knowledge of alphabetical numerical and decimal systems of arrangement.
  3. Proficient in MS Office Google Workspace internet browsers and other computer related technologies.
  4. Excellent verbal written and interpersonal communication skills.
  5. Dedication to public service and providing excellent customer service.
  6. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to organize work set priorities and manage projects to completion.
  7. Enthusiastic positive friendly selfmotivated creative and approachable.
  8. Strong obligation to confidentiality.
  9. Ability to speak multiple languages helpful.
  10. May require a valid Michigan drivers license based on assignment.

Working Environment:

  1. May be required to: sit stand bend stoop crouch reach kneel and/or walk for extended periods of time; carry books boxes of books or objects weighing up to 50 pounds; push or pull wheeled carts with a total weight of up to 500 pounds; operate assigned equipment; pick up litter; spread ice melt; use the telephone keyboard computer mouse.
  2. Evening weekend and some holiday hours are required.
  3. This position requires the employee to be on site at the Library and does not offer any remote work opportunities.

Hours:

This is a yearround part time position with permanent shifts on the following days at these set times. Candidates must be available to work the shifts as posted.

16 hours per week

  • Sundays 12pm 4pm
  • Thursdays 2pm 6pm
  • Fridays 2pm 6pm
  • Saturdays 2pm 6pm

Salary or Hourly Rate: $12.48 per hour

Benefits: This position offers sick time at the rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
