Job Description

REPORTS TO: Site Administrator

SALARY SCHEDULE:260/R9

WORK YEAR: 10 Months

HOURLY RANGE: $20.24$27.69

***A Maximum of two 2 years may be granted for experience***

WORK SCHEDULE:9:05 a.m. 3:35 p.m.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under direction of certificated staff assists in conducting intensified positive learning experiences for students in assigned areas of studyincluding the supervision and instruction of preschool aged children 3 5 years old); performs a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for certificated personnel; assists children in meeting health care needs and developing childrens daily living skills and provides assistance as well as health care services to students with identified special health needs. Assists with the implementation of emergency procedures and first aid while meeting immediate health care and safety needs of teacher with gathering student observation and assessment information. Cleans work areas (e.g. changing tables sinks linens food service areas etc. and maintains a sanitary environment. May assist in food service (e.g. receive set up/serve meals and snacks).Organizes indoor/outdoor quiet/active play activities appropriate to age group. Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling copying etc.. Positions in this classification receive general supervision from site administrators credentialed nurse and credentialed instructional staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists certificated personnel with the development and presentation of learning materials and instruction; E
  • Tutors students individually or in small groups to reinforce and followup with learning activities; E
  • Monitors and assists in administration of student testing and scores tests as directed;
  • Assists in supervising students during school hours; E
  • Assists school nurse in establishing and maintaining daily documentation of school health records with respect to logging of the administration of health services which may include documentation of accidents/incidents; E
  • Performs special physical health care services and assistance with noninstructional activities including: clothing eating toileting diaper changes personal hygiene administering medications catheterization oral or tracheotomy suctioning administering ingestible medications and wheelchair assistance; E
  • Performs lifting or other physical tasks as assigned; E
  • Supervises and assists students with special needs; E
  • Provides additional assistance for delivery of health services as needed; E
  • Assists the District Nurse in maintaining daily documentation of school health records with respect to physical health care services and procedures; E
  • Performs a variety of regular clerical duties such as filing typing or duplicate materials; E
  • Operates a variety of instructional media office machines and equipment; E
  • Participates in District in service programs and professional learning; E
  • Uses positive reinforcement strategies and other appropriate techniques to assist students in the development of proper behavior. E

JOB REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade;
  • Must have completed two years of higher education 60 semester units) or;
  • Possess an Associate or higher degree or;
  • Pass a formal state or local academic assessment that demonstrates the knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching reading writing and mathematics or reading writing and mathematics readiness;
  • Any combination of training and education that could likely provide the desired knowledge.

Licenses Certifications and Testing:

  • Preemployment physical and drug test;
  • A current and valid Tuberculosis (TB) clearance;
  • Fingerprint clearance for school personnel;
  • Must possess a valid California driver license during the course of employment and be insurable by the Districts liability insurance carrier;
  • Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or equivalent is desired;
  • Possess and maintain a current First Aid and CPR certification for adult and child;
  • Pass a District test with a score of 80 or better;
  • Pass a District test typing thirtyfive 35 words per minute.

Knowledge and skills of:

  • General concepts of child growth and development and child behavior characteristics;
  • Techniques used in controlling and motivating students;
  • General purposes and goals of public education;
  • Specific subject area content as required in job assignment;
  • Safety rules and regulations regarding physical activity;
  • Student testing and testing procedures;
  • Some knowledge of procedures/techniques related to first aid and equipment utilized for physical health care;
  • Universal precautions and bloodborne pathogens;
  • Standard office equipment and computer applications including Microsoft Office and Google Drive environments;
  • Modern office methods procedures and equipment including record keeping principles methods and procedures filing systems letter and report writing;
  • Interpersonal skills using tact patience and courtesy while demonstrating exemplary customer service in working with students parents staff and the public.

Ability to:

  • Work effectively with special needs students by performing such tasks as feeding clothing toileting being a wheelchair attendant assisting with or performing health care procedures as assigned maintain and operate health care equipment;
  • Perform health care procedures under supervision of credentialed nurse;
  • Willingness to accept the responsibility for the safety and welfare of special needs children;
  • Be able to meet the lifting and physical requirements of the job;
  • Ability to learn and perform procedures related to specialized physical health care services;
  • Assume responsibility for supervising preschool age students;
  • Learn and utilize basic methods and procedures to be followed in instructional settings;
  • Perform routine clerical work and basic arithmetical calculations;
  • Demonstrate an understanding patient warm and receptive attitude toward children;
  • Operate a variety of standard office equipment as well as computer applications including Microsoft Office Professional and Google Drive environments.
  • Use English in both verbal and written form employing correct spelling grammar punctuation and vocabulary; speak clearly and logically;
  • Communicate effectively using a variety of mediums;
  • Plan and organize work and effectively maintain work schedules;
  • Work effectively with deadlines and under pressure;
  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of sensitive information;
  • Analyze situations identify needs prioritize solve problems independently as appropriate and take appropriate action in a variety of procedural matters without immediate supervision;
