Job Description

Job Title: Land Maintenance Worker

Department: Parks and Recreation

Reports To: Assistant Parks Maintenance Managers and Parks Operations Manager

Status: Seasonal NonExempt (Hourly)

Wage: $15.00 $16.50 DOE

Close Date: Open Until Filled

Hours: Up to 40 hours/week schedule/shift determined by supervisor

Season: April 1st November 30th (no more than 6 months from date of hire)


Position Summary:

Performs a variety of entrylevel duties related to the maintenance upkeep beautification installation repair and construction of parks grounds/amenities cemetery grounds trails buildings splash pads and general environments; and other duties as assigned by the Parks Operations Manager Parks Maintenance Crew Leads or designated Park Maintenance Staff.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Sixteen 16 Years of age or older
  • Valid Utah Class D Drivers License (preferred)
  • OffHighway Vehicle Certification (within 30 days of hire)
  • One 1 year of experience or more in a related field (preferred but not necessary)

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of maintenance equipment such as mowers aerators trimmers etc.; landscape and sprinkler system repair and troubleshooting; safety precautions associated with equipment operations; interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to receive and follow instructions.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with supervisors subordinates and the public.
  • Ability to regularly lift 50 to 75 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand reach with hands and arms walk stoop kneel crouch or crawl use hands to finger handle or feel lift or move 5075 pounds talk hear and see. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision distance vision peripheral vision and depth perception.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to generally loud noise or very loud noise (ex. large earthmoving equipment lawnmowers trimmers blowers etc. Work is performed primarily in outdoor settings and allweather conditions. An individual is exposed to chemicals liquid chemicals solvents and oils. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts in high precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions fumes or airborne particles.
