THE OPPORTUNITY

Are you looking for a new opportunity and have solid experience with numbers Then apply to become our ACCOUNTANTin support of the Town of Paradise Valleys (Town) mission to provide highquality public services to a community that values limited government. The ACCOUNTANTfor the Town performs technical and analytical finance and budget functions under the general direction of the Accounting Manager.

More specifically the ACCOUNTANT performs:

  1. Accounts Payable
    • Facilitates payment to vendors which may include verifying federal ID numbers reviewing purchase orders and resolving discrepancies.
    • Prepares and files 1099s and monitors reporting compliance.
    • Identifies discount opportunities resolves past due balances and issues stoppayment orders as needed.
    • Records entry of verifies documentation for and distributes petty cash and travel reimbursements.
  2. Fixed Assets
    • Records fixed asset additions and retirements in the fixed assets system.
    • Maintains and reconciles construction in progress.
    • Applies depreciation in the fixed assets subsystem.
    • Creates fixed asset schedules for annual reports.
  3. Grants
    • Monitors records and maintains records for grant activity.
  4. Other
    • Verifies banking activity with accounting records and reconciles monthly statements.
    • Creates journal entries workpapers and spreadsheets.
    • Reconciles financial information related to assigned programs.
    • Reconciles various accounts and subledgers to the general ledger.
    • Crosstrains with department staff to provide backup for key services.

THE REQUIREMENTS

To become the ACCOUNTANT the Town requires:

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Five years of fulltime accounting experience using an automated accounting system.
  • Postsecondary education in a related field may substitute on a yearforyear basis for up to four years of the required experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Local or state government accounting experience.

The successfulcandidate also must:

  • Successfully completea background investigation which may include employment education credit and criminal history checks.
