Job Description

The faculty member is responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in the Fred D. Gray Institute of Law Justice & Society. This is a 12month parttime position requiring the teaching of 12 credit hours per year including travel courses within the major. Advise and mentor students in course and career planning research and classrelated projects. Engage in activities to support the mission and vision of Lipscomb University and the College of Leadership & Public Service. Engage in intellectual pursuits and professional development. Engage in departmental and interdepartmental collaboration to benefit the program college university and students. The above statements describe the jobs essential responsibilities and requirements. This is not an exhaustive list of the duties that may be assigned to the successful candidate.

Description of Task:

  • Maintain and develop assigned courses in the Law Justice & Society curriculum and be available to teach in other majors within the College.
  • Monitor the academic progress and advising of undergraduate students in the Law Justice & Society program.
  • Teach undergraduate courses and potentially graduate courses based on qualifications.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Fred D. Gray Institute to promote the goals and advancement of the Institute and the College.
  • Participate in professional development and research activities in order to remain academically current and remain aware of relevance in the professional community.
  • Serve on University or College committees and participate in University activities as needed.
  • Assist in extracurricular student activities like Moot Court and Mock Trial which may require travel.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Education: Masters degree required Juris Doctorate or Ph.D. strongly preferred

Experience: A demonstrated record of college teaching experience in the classroom is highly desirable. Experience in learning management systems (Blackboard Canvas) and online/hybrid teaching experience is preferred. Extensive engagement in community or government service is highly desirable. Five years of professional practice is required. Experience or training in Conflict management is preferred. Experience or training in Conflict management is preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Members of the Tennessee Bar or other academic/professional membership preferred.
  • Strong Christian in faith and practice.
  • Record of teaching and scholarship activity.
  • Relevant experience and relationships in the legal ecosystem.

Active Member of a Church of Christ is preferred.
