SUMMARY:
- Provide safe orderly and efficient transportation of students to and from school and on extracurricular trips
- Comply with the time schedule department policy and procedures
- Complies with all traffic regulations
QUALIFICATIONS:
Licenses and Certifications:
- Must have and maintain a valid Drivers License
- Must pass a 20hour Texas School Bus Driver Certification Course and recertify every 3 years
- Special needs drivers must take a 20hour special needs course an 8hour CPI and an annual refresher when required
- Must have and maintain an acceptable criminal history check
- Must have an acceptable driving record
- Must pass an annual DOT physical
- Must be able to pass preemployment drug screening participate in random drug and alcohol screening and participate in postaccident screening when applicable
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions including route directions and route maps
- Must be able to proficiently read write and communicate verbally in English
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritize effectively
- Must meet all qualifications for a bus driver in DISD
- Be familiar with the DISD attendance zone and campus boundaries
- Maintain a professional helpful attitude and desire to lead by example with a positive attitude
- Ability to manage student behavior with a calm and positive attitude consistently
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and pleasantly in person via telephone and via twoway radio
- Knowledge of recordkeeping and office procedurespertaining to bus routes
- Must demonstrate diplomacy and flexibility in dealing with internal/externalmembers os the publicin the school district
- Able to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision and mistakes
Experience:
- Experience working with children preferred)
- Experience driving a school bus preferred)
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Report to work in accordance with the assigned work schedule
- Maintain cooperative relationships with staff members administrators schools and the community
- Adhere to Dickinson ISD employee standards of conduct
- Perform and document a pretrip and posttrip inspection on every vehicle driven according to approved Dickinson ISD and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration guidelines. Report all defects in writing to the shop immediately.
- Keep the assigned bus cleaned and fueled per policy and procedures
- Drive the route as the route description is written
- Develop implement and maintain accurate seating charts for each route
- Address student behavior issues and maintain an orderly bus per DISD policy and procedures
- Report route issues and concerns such as student counts bus stops directions pickup and dropoff times that need attention as they occur per policy and procedure to the Route Coordinator
- Monitor and respond to twoway radio communications do not turn off radio or lower the volume during route time
- Respond appropriately and decisively to emergency situations per DISD policy and procedures
- Participate in training as required
- Exercise responsible safe driving
- Follow District and Transportation Department policies and procedures
- Perform all other duties as assigned the Director of Transportation

- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Prolonged sitting twisting reaching and repetitive hand arm and shoulder motions
- Work outside and inside moderate walking frequent climbing stairs
- Frequent exposure to noise extreme temperatures such as hot cold rainy and sometimes foggy
- Moderate exposure to vehicle fumes and working around moving vehicles
