GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK
To provide leadership and training in mathematics teaching to building level teachers administrators and parents in order to improve student learning in mathematics.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS
The minimum performance expectations include but are not limited to the following functions/tasks:
- Provide building level leadership and support for teachers and instructional assistants to increase their content knowledge in mathematics.
- Collaborate with the building level administration building staff and district mathematics curriculum specialist to develop and implement programs and strategies for the improvement of student achievement in mathematics.
- Model effective mathematics instruction and develop gradelevel math leadership and collegial collaboration by coteaching a yearlong class with a highly qualified K5 teacher in the same building.
- Model effective mathematics instruction as needed to increase teachers knowledge of researchbased mathematics instructional strategies.
- Collaborate with grade level teams to review and further develop mathematics curriculum guides and instructional plans to enhance the success of students.
- Coordinate the building level review process and implementation of curriculum materials such as textbooks and manipulative.
- Develop and present ongoing professional development opportunities for teachers.
- Plan and coordinate the implementation of opportunities for building level parent participation in mathematics.
- Engage in researchbased professional development and apply learned best practices.
- Monitor various data and documentation regarding mathematics teaching and learning.
- Provide leadership and consultation services in the assessment of mathematics to identify students who are at risk as well as those students who may be gifted in mathematics.
- Assist teachers or other staff members in analyzing individual student assessment data and using the results to design and coordinate the implementation of appropriate intervention strategies.
- Assist in mentoring new or ineffective teachers by providing guidance in developing and implementing their mathematics program.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrate knowledge of mathematics content and appropriate math pedagogy.
- Demonstrate knowledge of reformbased mathematical ideas and the ability to implement these in instructional settings.
- Demonstrate ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other teachers and staff members.
- Demonstrate ability to relate positively with parents and community representatives.
- Demonstrate appropriate use of written and verbal communication.
- Possess good character and leadership qualities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Have a license in elementary education with at least 5 years of successful experience as a fulltime teacher.
- Is currently enrolled in or has a masters degree in education with an emphasis in K8 mathematics and a K8 math specialist endorsement.
- Have experience working with multiple grade levels and differentiated instruction.
- Have significant participation in researchbased professional development opportunities in mathematics education.
- Have significant experience in implementing researchbased mathematical ideas into instructional practice.
- Have experience in providing staff development preferably in mathematics content instructional strategies or in using assessment to inform instruction.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS
Duties performed typically in the central office and throughout the division. Frequent walking standing stooping lifting up to approximately 40 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Travel to schools throughout the division and central office is required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members administrators and parents is required. Contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary. Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all CCPS employees. To ensure adequate staffing positive employee morale and to meet expected productivity standards throughout the organization employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.
EVALUATION
The supervisor will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
