- Ability to provide idiomatic translations of nontechnical material using correct syntax and expression from the foreign language to English and viceversa
- Ability to conduct consecutive accurate interpretations of ongoing conversations and/or activities
- Willing and able to live and work in harsh environments to include living and working in temporary facilities as mission dictates
- Ability to serve in a combat zone is desirable
Minimum Qualifications / Experience:
- Must possess an active Secret (CAT II) or TS/SCI (CAT III) clearance
- Two or more years of experience
- High school degree/GED; in lieu of education experience may be substituted
- Must have a minimum of general professional proficiency 3 in English and the target language(s) for listening speaking reading and writing
Other Qualifications:
- A small number of linguists who qualify may optionally take training in special skills
- These may include parachuting rappelling fast roping and other insertion/extraction techniques
