Gifted and Talented Classroom Teacher

Purpose Statement

The Gifted and Talented Classroom Teacher is dedicated to enhancing the instructional process by providing specialized support to gifted and talented students. This role involves supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas developing tailored lesson plans to meet their cognitive needs and delivering both group and individual instruction in alignment with established curriculum guidelines. The teacher actively collaborates with the Gifted and Talented teacher team and Placement Committee other educators professional staff and administrators to address instructional and classroom issues. Additionally the teacher responds to inquiries from parents or guardians regarding the instructional program and student progress ensuring effective communication and support.

This job reports to the Building Principal.

Essential Functions

  • Instructional Support: Provide specialized instruction to gifted and talented students supervising them within the classroom and other designated areas.
  • Lesson Plan Development: Design and implement differentiated lesson plans that align with district curricular resources while meeting the unique learning needs of gifted and talented students.
  • Individual and Group Instruction: Deliver both group and individual instruction to students fostering an engaging and challenging learning environment.
  • Assessment Administration: Administer subjectspecific assessments to evaluate student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
  • Student Progress Assessment: Assess student progress towards objectives expectations and goals providing feedback to students parents and administration.
  • Parent Communication: Advise parents and legal guardians of student progress communicating expectations achievements and methods for improvement.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with instructional staff other school personnel parents and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
  • Guidance and Mentoring: Direct assistant teachers student teachers instructional assistants volunteers and student workers to provide an effective classroom program and address individual student needs.
  • Professional Development: Engage actively in Gifted and Talented team meetings Placement Committee meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Classroom Instruction: Instruct students using various methods to improve their academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain district equipment to ensure availability in a safe operating condition and report defective equipment for repair.
  • Behavior Management: Manage student behavior to provide a safe school learning environment.
  • Student Monitoring: Monitor students in various educational environments to ensure a safe and positive learning experience.
  • Specialized Training: Obtain specific training in theory curriculum and instructional delivery tailored to the needs of gifted and talented students.
  • Meeting Participation: Participate in meetings workshops training and seminars to convey and gather information required for job functions.
  • Documentation: Prepare written materials such as grades attendance records and anecdotal reports to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
  • Research Application: Stay current on research findings related to teaching and learning for gifted and talented students and apply appropriate principles to enhance teaching effectiveness.
  • Incident Reporting: Report incidents such as fights suspected child abuse and substance abuse to maintain student safety and adhere to education code and school policies.
  • Inquiry Response: Respond to inquiries from teachers parents and administrators to resolve issues and provide information and direction.
  • Effective Learning Principles: Utilize accepted principles of learning to provide excellent classroom instruction.
  • Resource Provision: Serve as a resource to District personnel by providing support guidance and mentoring based on knowledge and experience.
  • Liaison Role: Serve as a liaison between site administration classroom teachers and the District office to enhance communication.
  • Policy Implementation: Support and implement Board policies administrative regulations directives and assist in developing policies and regulations to achieve operational goals.
  • Grant Program Management: Manage tasks in compliance with state and federal grant program requirements.
  • Content Area Literacy Facilitation: Assist in the facilitation and implementation of content area literacy to increase student academic success.

Other Functions

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills Knowledge and Abilities

Skills:

  • Proficiency in performing multiple highly complex technical tasks with the ability to periodically upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions.
  • Competence in applying assessment instruments operating standard office equipment utilizing pertinent software applications and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

Knowledge:

  • Expertise in algebra and geometry reading technical information composing various documents facilitating group discussions and analyzing situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
  • Indepth understanding of appropriate codes policies regulations and laws; ageappropriate activities; lesson plan requirements; stages of child development; and behavioral management strategies.

Ability:

  • Capability to schedule activities meetings and events; gather collate and classify data; and use jobrelated equipment.
  • Flexibility to work with others in diverse circumstances handle data using defined processes and operate equipment using standardized methods.
  • Proficiency in working with a diversity of individuals and groups managing various data types and utilizing specific jobrelated equipment.
  • Strong problemsolving skills to analyze issues and create action plans with frequent independent interpretation of guidelines and moderate problemsolving with equipment.
  • Specific competencies include establishing and maintaining constructive relationships adapting to changing work priorities maintaining confidentiality exhibiting tact and patience and working flexible hours.

Working Environment

The typical methods of performing the jobs functions involve occasional lifting carrying pushing and pulling as well as some climbing and balancing. Frequent activities include stooping kneeling crouching and crawling along with significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10 sitting 45 walking and 45 standing. The work is conducted under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazardfree environment.

Experience

  • Teaching Experience: Several years of successful teaching experience preferably in a K12 setting with a focus on gifted and talented education.
  • Curriculum Development: Experience in designing and implementing differentiated curriculum tailored to the needs of gifted and talented students.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Proficiency in developing and administering assessments to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions.
  • Professional Development: Experience in planning and delivering professional development sessions for educators particularly in the areas of gifted education and instructional best practices.
  • Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues administrators parents and community resources to enhance student outcomes.
  • Behavior Management: Experience in managing student behavior to create a safe and conducive learning environment.
  • Research Application: Familiarity with current research and trends in gifted education with the ability to apply these findings to improve teaching practices.
  • Technology Integration: Experience in integrating technology into the classroom to support and enhance learning for gifted and talented students.
  • Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively convey information to students parents and colleagues.
  • Leadership: Proven leadership skills in guiding and mentoring other educators and participating in team meetings and committees.
  • Grant Management: Experience in managing grants and budgets related to educational programs.

Education:Bachelors degree in jobrelated area. Masters degree preferred.

Certificates:Appropriate Wyoming State Department of Education Certificate endorsement and highly qualified status
