Job Description

Minimum bachelors degree with valid Tennessee teaching license and appropriate endorsement required. Acceptable endorsement codes are 013 . See below for more information.

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS

  1. Professional Tennessee teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement.
  2. Possess strong writing speaking and human relations skills.
  3. Meet health and physical qualifications.
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB GOAL

The secondary school teacher is responsible for teaching students and leading them toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual emotional and psychological growth and maturation.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Instructs students in subject matter using various teaching methods such as lecture and demonstration. Uses audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentation.
  2. Prepares to teach course of study assigns lessons and corrects homework papers corresponding to the course of study.
  3. Keeps accurate attendance records.
  4. Encourages students to maintain appropriate standards of classroom behavior.
  5. Prepares for class and show evidence of preparation when requested by immediate supervisor.
  6. Maintains availability to students and parents for educationrelated meetings outside the instructional day when requested.
  7. Assists in enforcing school rules Board policies and administrative regulations.
  8. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.
  9. Represents the school to the community in a positive manner.
  10. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  11. Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids appropriate to the interest and maturity level of students; maintains required classroom inventory records.
  12. Adapts the curriculum to provide individual small group or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual student.
  13. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly productive classroom environment.
  14. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health attitude and learning problems.
  15. Communicates with parents and school counselors on students progress.
  16. Supervises students in outofclassroom activities during the assigned working day.
  17. Advises student teachers when applicable.
  18. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs and committees as assigned.
  19. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities (e.g. class sponsor).
  20. Maintains professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the district and in selfselected professional growth activities.
  21. Perform such other duties and tasks as requested by the principal.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This job may require lifting of objects that exceed 25 lbs. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:

  2. Intelligence: The ability to understand instructions and underlying principles. Ability to reason and make judgments.
  3. Verbal: Ability to understand meanings of words and the ideas associated with them.
  4. Numerical: Ability to perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately.
  5. Manual Dexterity: Ability to move the hands easily and manipulate small objects with the fingers.
  6. Form Perception: To make visual comparisons and discriminations and see slight differences in shapes and shadings of figures.
  7. Color Discrimination: Ability to perceive or recognize similarities or differences in colors or shades or other values of the same color.
