POSITION DUTIES:

Reporting to the Foreperson Field Rec & Special Projects conduct inspections related to playgrounds pathways safety stations storm water management ponds and other parks assets. Direct and act as reference for technical information to fulltime temporary and parttime staff in the maintenance operations of playgrounds pathways safety stations storm water management ponds and other parks assets.

  • Conducts visual inspections of complete playground areas in accordance with CAN/CSAZ61414.
  • Inspects watercourses safety stations and storm water management ponds for proper equipment signage and hazardous conditions.
  • Inspects pathways/walkways bridges for safety related repairs and vegetation encroachments.
  • Inspects parkland/sports lighting site furniture and equipment (i.e. backstops) for the purpose of asset management and implementation of immediate safety related repairs.
  • Updates inspection sheets on a daily basis recording all inspection and maintenance items performed and also completes monthly detail reports on all playground areas and regular recording of inspections and maintenance items performed on pathways safety stations storm water management ponds and other parks assets.
  • Conducts yearly comprehensive written reports on all structural components of playground areas in regards to their soundness stability and safety features in accordance with CAN/CSAZ61414.
  • Meets with forepersons supervisors other city staff and contractors to discuss daily weekly and long term goals regarding playgrounds watercourses storm water management ponds pathways/walkways contract supervision other parks assets and asset management programs.
  • Responds to all aspects of public and internal concerns with regards to safety liability maintenance and equipment requirements of playgrounds pathways safety stations and storm water management ponds and other parks assets.
  • Assists with playground and pathway new/replacement programs by meeting with PD&D Works and Transportation personnel and outside consultants at various City facilities and on site.
  • Performs minor and major condition audits on parkland assets for life cycle tracking and budget submissions including but not limited to playgrounds pathways lighting signage fencing and other parks assets.
  • Directs and supervises contractors to ensure compliance with Corporate policies procedures CAN/CSA and contract specifications in regards to playground and pathway installations/repairs and contract services.
  • Use information gathered through yearly comprehensive reports to establish lifecycle thresholds and prioritize playground pathway and other parks assets for replacement programs.
  • Performs additional similar and related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • High School (Grade 12 graduation plus an additional program of one year or less with in Humber College Horticulture Sciencesand 107 University of Guelph Horticulturalist Certificate or equivalent formally known as Horticulture Science 1 2 3 and Certificate and current O.P.A. Playground Practitioner Certificate I II III or C.P.S.I. certification.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Over two 2 years up to and including four 4 years of experience.

REQUIRED LICENCE CERTIFICATION:

  • Valid nonprobationary Ontario class G drivers licence.

OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:

  • Knowledge of CANCSA Z61414 Occupational Health & Safety Act WHMIS regulations WSIB Regulations MTO Highway Traffic Act MTO Road Signal Procedures Employment Standards Act Human Rights Code and Bill C45.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
