The Holland Lab at Williams College invites applications for a PostBaccalaureate Research Fellow to conduct research in plant biology and molecular life sciences. This oneyear position with the possibility of renewal for a second year offers an opportunity to acquire independent laboratory research experience while working on an NSFfunded project focused on the biosynthesis and plant perception of volatiles.
The successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of knowledge regarding plant communication and defense mechanisms while developing essential research proficiencies conducive to future success in graduate studies or careers in STEM fields joining a supportive and collaborative research environment to engage in meaningful scientific inquiry. Responsibilities:
The PostBaccalaureate Research Fellow will gain experience conducting laboratory experiments pertaining to plant responses to volatile organic compounds enzymatic assays and the identification of volatile compounds using analytical chemistry. Essential functions will include contributions to daily laboratory operations such as the preparation of buffers and media protocol maintenance meticulous recordkeeping in a laboratory notebook and purchasing laboratory supplies. The Fellow will also be expected to perform data analysis and organization participate in scholarly discussions of findings with the Principal Investigator (PI) and contribute to laboratory meetings. There will also be opportunities to collaborate with and assist with training undergraduate researchers in the lab.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Biology Chemistry Biochemistry or a related field.
While not required previous laboratory research experience in plant biology molecular biology analytical chemistry or biochemistry is a plus.
The PostBaccalaureate Research Fellow must be able to work for extended periods at a laboratory bench either sitting or standing; handle small tubes vials and pipettes with precision; and lift and carry up to 20 pounds as needed.
This position requires fully inperson work. Remote work arrangements will not be available at this time.
