Description
Young Mothers for Young Women (YMYW) offers peer and professional support to young pregnant and parenting women 25 years and under their children and families who reside in the Brisbane City Council and Moreton Bay region. Young women can access a variety of different services through our Wellspring Hub including targeted family support group work antenatal services child health clinics and GP services. The program provides a twogeneration approach meeting the needs of the parents and their children. We celebrate the strengths of young women who are parenting and recognize issues related to housing health social isolation employment education and income are interconnected and solutions require an integrated approach.
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Family Support & Advocacy Worker to join our Young Mothers for Young Women (YMYW) team. This role involves providing targeted family support through outreach strategies to young pregnant and parenting women their children and families with high and complex needs. The goal is to improve family functioning housing stability and community connections.
This is a fixed term full time employment opportunity until June 2027 with conditions and salary at Level 4 of the SCHADS Award.
Skills And Experiences
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote a culture of respect safety and traumainformed approaches.
- Provide outreach and home visiting support coordinated case management and advocacy.
- Conduct holistic assessments and develop support plans.
- Facilitate proactive referrals to specialist services.
- Empower families through participation and access to resources.
- Support positive parentchild interactions and school readiness.
- Advocate for young women in child protection family law and domestic violence situations.
- Conduct risk assessments and report as necessary.
- Assist with housing stability and access to healthcare and education.
Essential Criteria:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work Human Services Psychology or a related field.
- Experience working with young pregnant and parenting women.
- Knowledge of assertive outreach and home visiting using a case work model.
- Commitment to social justice and organisational policies.
- Effective communication and advocacy skills.
- Ability to conduct assessments and develop support plans.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and culturally diverse backgrounds.
- High level of written and verbal skills and IT competencies.
- Positive attitude flexibility and ability to work both autonomously and in a team.
