The Northeast Washington Interagency Communications Center (NEWICC) is looking for anInitial Attack Supervisor to join our team. The individual hired into this role will be responsible for providing timely and effective dispatching of personnel equipment and aircraft for fire suppression as well as provide administrative support to the fire suppression program (i.e. fire reports resource orders records retention cost tracking rosters smoke management weather analysis etc.. Incumbents of these positions need to have a wide variety of communication skills as they will interact with numerous levels of managers supervisors and employees within the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) as well as those within cooperating agencies (US Forest Service Bureau of Land Management Bureau of Indian Affairs US Fish and Wildlife rural fire districts etc. and the general public.
It is critical that the incumbents in these positions have the confidence and ability to make decisions based on emergent situations providing leadership and guidance to their dispatch team and maintain their composure and professionalism working in a potentially highstress environment. Excellent attention to detail is crucial to ensure reliable intelligence is relayed to fire resources as well as accurate fire statistics reporting to support the integrity of national wildland fire datasets. Duties
Responsibilities:
This position will work with the other Initial Attack Dispatch Supervisors (IA Supervisors) at NEWICC each supervises a geographic dispatch zone (West and East) overseeing the work of 36 seasonal Initial Attack Dispatchers. Under the direction of the Dispatch Operations Coordinator and center management staff coordinates the dispatching of closest fire resources to emerging incidents and ensures dispatchers conform to the rules laws policies and procedures of all interagency dispatch partners. Liaises with agency Duty Officers to ensure accurate resource lineups and sufficient resource coverage throughout the dispatch area to respond to new reports of fire. Coordinates radio frequency management within the dispatch center assigning and adjusting radio coverage among IA Dispatchers to ensure consistent
Responsible for ensuring timely and accurate reporting of fire data to both state and national data systems and validating the completeness and accuracy of dispatch staffs work providing corrective guidance as needed. Provides firstlevel administrative management support for the Northeast Region fire program by overseeing records retention; assisting in roster and directory updates disseminating wildfire incident data processing burn permit applications and coordinating project work within the dispatch center
IA Supervisors also oversee the IA Dispatcher training program develop training plans and simulations ensure lesson comprehension and provide corrective feedback and supplemental training as needed. Develop preseason expectations for seasonal dispatch staff provide interim performance feedback and complete endofseason performance evaluations.Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalency.
- One season as Wildland Dispatcher 3;

- Position is assigned to the Northeast Washington Interagency Communications Center (NEWICC) in Colville WA. Work is performed within a dispatch office environment where frequent interruptions multitasking and stressful conditions are routine. Dispatch is a high pressure environment answering multiple radio/phone calls per day under noisy conditions for extended periods of time without loss of concentration; sit for 4 or more hours per day; work overtime on short notice to assist in emergency operations and accept varying work schedules/shifts; follow written and /or oral instructions; move or relocate objects weighing approximately 30 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. While the position is eligible for teleworking it is also critical that the incumbent is physically in the dispatch center during active fire season as an essential personnel.
- Throughout the year occasional travel is required to attend meetings and trainings throughout the region and state.
- One year of supervisory Experience.
- National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) qualified as an Initial Attack Dispatcher (IADP) or Expanded Dispatch Support Dispatcher Trainee (EDSDT) Aircraft Dispatcher Trainee (ACDPT).
- Wildland fire suppression experience.
