Duties & Responsibilities
Description of the Role
Responsible for tactical and longterm strategy and the navigation of multiple/complex leaderships relevant across the function in all countries.
Leveraging tactical and practice integration accountable to optimise the function. Coaccountable with RBB ARO CFO for business growth and profitability.
Ensure that the CFO & ME is appraised of key financial issues that need to be raised with executive leadership to enable integrity and timely management the BU.
Responsible for all Regulatory Board and AFS Committee returns and submissions. This includes responses to key actions items and responses to letters from regulators.
Annual review of Annual Financial Statements for any legal entities that fall within the ARO Group of companies that require signoff at center.
Working closely with the Insurance Managing Executive to deliver on the Business strategy and providing the balance of financial acumen on key strategic priorities.
Working closely with the Group team to deliver on key strategic projects across the various countries e.g. IFRS 17
Working closely with all the Finance and actuarial functions in within the Group and building relationships to understand the business and core financial issues.
Deliver on our Customer Promise by creating unprecedented seamless experiences.
Implementation and creating of global best operating practices.
Drive continuous process efficiency financial rigor and controls. Pioneer and implement Finance best practices digital solutions and effective change enablement. Build a scalable digitally led business.
Drive cost management objectives for function within the countries. Enhance the cash settlement process and drive cost efficiencies within the Group for the insurance business.
Contribute to functional strategy create a shared purpose and identity for function;
Book of work contribution: Partner with leaders on financial decisions and implications of business strategies investments tradeoffs efficiency and scale initiatives including process and systems transformation. Ensure alignment of core business with future business and technology changes and align vendor roadmaps to ensure the achievement thereof.
Accountable for ensuring an optimal and compliant control environment within business unit that appropriately balances risk appetites and customer demand with the need to grow to achieve the financial ambitions and balance sheet aspirations of RBB.
Lead all aspects of the core finance processes for RBB Finance (annual planning forecasting spend trajectory and reporting) and partner with the business leaders to evaluate the productivity of operations enable wise resource allocation and drive intelligent scenario planning.
Stimulate a leadership context of solid understanding of the markets/segments/customers/products to help drive financial growth performs product and customer profitability analysis to assist with business decisions. Build capability to partner with business to identify opportunities to utilise relevant solutions to innovate new products and services with the intent of driving customer value and revenue.
Whenever necessary participate in negotiations with partners as well as suppliers or contractors within appropriate role scope.
Influence integration of Actuaries Group ETA teams Tax and Finance from a country perspective.
Maintain stewardship and excellence which drives performance and sustainable growth through preservation of financial integrity.
Leverage BU to help shape society by developing innovative solutions to societal challenges; and expand and augment existing capabilities.
Integrate oversight of BCM & cybersecurity strategy for countries into Finance .
Specific Role Purpose: The Head of Finance Insurance ARO is specifically aware of the challenging risk environment its impact as financial plans are implemented in each country including effects on results of operations future periods liquidity and capital resources the economic downturn and the evolution of the pandemic.
The Head of Finance Insurance ARO of the business has endtoend accountability and responsibility for finance MI financial and management reports forecasts and business performance analysis per country cash settlement Regulatory & Board reporting and engagements.
The Head of Finance Insurance ARO partners with Managing Executive to transform to bring stewardship financial integrity & insights to the current state of the business & its future possibilities to deliver on the new operating model and to achieve the business strategy objectives.
The Head of Finance Insurance ARO of the business enables achieving the operational objectives of the business by building an agile finance enablement to transform to bring stewardship financial integrity & insights to the current state of the business & its future possibilities to deliver on the new operating model and to achieve the business strategy objectives set by the insurance entities.
Skill and Experience
IFRS 17 (compulsory)
Insurance industry experience
Experience in business transformation contexts related to exponential business growth
Experience in commercial innovation environments
Broad Finance including strategic commercial legal risk and operational aspects
Ability to build develop & lead professional level teams
Understanding of the insurance sector within a professional business environment
5 years professional financial management experience
5 years Insurance Experience at a management level
Preferred team lead in Finance Function teams or in professional sales environments
Technical knowledge
Ability to read understand and interpret transaction documents in order to ensure the accurate management and servicing of the portfolio
Strong experience over a broad and complex Specialised Lending product range
Articulate with strong numerical competency
Ability to create and manage an amortisation profile based on various attributes relating to interest rates repayment profiles and periods
Risk conscious understand the operational banking and product related risks and how to mitigate them
Understanding of general accounting principles including debits and credits
Understanding the mechanics of a reconciliation and how to clear breaks
Education:
Minimum Bdegree (NQF level no.7
Desired: CA (SA) or CIMA or MBA qualification preferred
