Indie School provides students theopportunity to learn in a supportiveenvironment using individualised learning and education plans tailored to each students own education and life circumstances. Smaller class sizes allow students greater opportunity to identify their strengths and work to improve areas in which they lack confidence.

The greatest difference between Indie School and many other alternative education settings is that ourfoundations lie in Adult Education philosophies. Choice independence mutual respect and accountability all have a significant role to play. In return for higher levels of selfresponsibility thestudents can enjoy some greater freedoms.

Our schools are located in areas of socioeconomic disadvantage and we work with students who have found it difficult to engage with mainstream education for a variety of reasons. Our aim is to reengage students with learning improve literacy and numeracy skills and focus on the next step in the learning journey for each student: be that a desire to return to mainstream pursue a TAFE/RTO pathway or to get ready for the workforce.

Description

Core Workplace Objectives

  • Preparation and delivery of programs in line with appropriate curriculum.
  • Enhancing effectiveness in the classroom through improved teacher knowledge practice and professional engagement in order to achieve improved standards of teaching and learning.
  • Ensuring the most effective use of time and resources in the delivery of classes aligned to students individual learning and pathways plans.
  • Promoting the schools alternative educational and strengths based model to ensure student goals and personal outcomes are achieved with the focus onChanging the Lives of Young People

Workplace Tasking & Key Responsibilities

Teaching duties are aligned to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. Key duties of the teacher may include but are not limited to:

  • Writing curriculum that provides adjustments for students (this requires an understanding of NSWcurricula; understanding of the NSWCurriculum F10 will be highly regarded)
  • Planning writing and delivering structured lessons that differentiate and personalise the learning for each student
  • Embedding best practice pedagogy into lesson plans to engage students.
  • Working collaboratively in a small team to implement feedback.
  • Embracing opportunities to participate in coaching and mentoring programs.
  • Supporting students with a range of learning needs including disabilities behavioural disturbances Autism Spectrum Disorder ADD/ADHD low levels of literacy/numeracy and mental illness. This includes personalising the learning for individual students pursuant to the levels of adjustment of the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD).
  • Collaborating to write Individual Learning Plans for all students
  • Embedding the strategies from Individual Learning Plans in lessons to support the needs of the student
  • Providing timely and specific feedback to students to support learning growth (particularly through formative assessment practices).
  • Assessing and reporting student achievement and progress
  • Behaviour management (including an understanding of traumainformed practice or a willingness to gain this knowledge)
  • Building positive relationships with students while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Supporting students to experience success


Skills And Experiences
