Job Description

Position Summary

Continued employment is contingent upon funding.

This position is not tenure eligible.

The primary function of the position is to serve as a fulltime ESL instructor for Adult Education. The FT ESL instructor will teach ESL classes as assigned by the program director as well as assisting in working ESL inquiries managing paperwork test proctoring making class assignments updating the list of class assignments notifying teachers of new students and preparing paperwork to be submitted to the AAESAP Data Coordinator. The FT ESL Instructor may also assist in the front office with prospective walkin students and their families who are interested in enrolling in the ESL program.

Salary
Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule D3: $31289 $52194 9 months)
An additional summer assignment may be available: $10430 $17397 3 months)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide competent classroom instruction in the area of English as a Second Language specifically reading writing speaking and listening in English as well as Civics Education.
  2. Evaluate the progress of students in all classes according to institutional departmental and federal criteria.
  3. Administer assessment instruments to diagnose evaluate and place adult learners in the proper educational functioning level for literacy level instruction through GED instruction.
  4. Collect maintain and submit accurate class records to the Data Entry Coordinator including attendance contact hours and progress reports.
  5. Prepare or assist in the preparation of materials used in academic administration when requested.
  6. Participate in scheduled inservice activities.
  7. Assist in the development of disciplinespecific student learning outcome objectives.
  8. Assess student learning using multiple assessment strategies.
  9. Analyze and interpret data relative to student learning and provide feedback to the institution and students for the purpose of improving and expanding student learning.
  10. Provide academic and career advice and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.
  11. Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work. Maintain assigned office hours.
  12. Assist in the processing of online inquiries for ESL prospective students.
  13. Be punctual in reporting for work.
  14. Assist in emailing prospective ESL students and settingup the test roster each month.
  15. Collect and organize paperwork prior to new student testing.
  16. Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the ESL program.
  17. Perform all duties with professionalism.
  18. Serve on committees engaged in furthering the work of the institution when appointed or when elected.
  19. Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog Personnel Handbook and ACCS Board Policy; and in accordance with the Adult Education State Plan and follow such policies and procedures.
  20. Perform other appropriate professional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

Qualifications

  1. A minimum of a Bachelors degree from an accredited institution is required.
  2. A minimum of one 1 year teaching experience in English as a Second Language is required.

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments

  1. Effective oral and written communication skills;
  2. Understanding of basic computer skills including Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint;
  3. Proficiency in the use of current educational technologies in the classroom and willingness to develop and teach webbased courses;
  4. Competency in the use of current educational technologies in the classroom;
  5. Knowledge of GED test requirements;
  6. Broad knowledge of English including grammar writing and literature; mathematics including fractions percent measurement algebra and geometry; reading instruction including vocabulary fluency and comprehension;
  7. Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  8. Ability to deal effectively with students other employees and the public;
  9. Commitment to all students including those of diverse ages cultures and ethnic backgrounds;
  10. Ability to conduct individual and small group instruction;
  11. Successful problem solving skills;
  12. Conscientious wanting to care about how work is done and wanting to do a good job;
  13. Initiative responding to downtime by taking responsibility to do other work;
  14. A focus on details;
  15. A focus on being friendly and patient in responding to students;
  16. Willingness and desire to learn new things and apply that learning;
  17. Willingness to maintain flexibility in order to meet student needs;
