The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) isan independent State agency that regulates Marylands $46 billion insuranceindustry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers andinsurance professionals compliance with State members aresubject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers consumers andother public and private entities.
The MIA is charged with a broad range ofresponsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers and insuranceproducers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland the conduct of financialexaminations of companies to monitor financial solvency and the review andapproval of rates and contract forms. The MIA investigates reports of consumerfraud and consumer complaints about life health automobile homeownersand/or property insurance. Insurance carriers are subject to marketconduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Marylandlaw.The MIAalso has a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach whichparticipates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands of individualconsumers annually.

Insurance Specialist I
Education: Bachelors degreefrom an accredited college or university.
Experience: One year ofexperience in the property and casualty insurance industry as an agentcustomer service representative complaint investigator claims adjuster orunderwriter; orone year as a Complaint Investigator for theMaryland Insurance Administration.
Notes:
1. A high school diploma or GEDand five years of experience in the property and casualty insurance industry asan agent customer service representative complaint investigator claimsadjuster or underwriter may substitute for the minimum qualification.
2. A high school diploma or GEDand five years of experience investigating complaints for the MarylandInsurance Administration may substitute for the required education.
Insurance Specialist II
Education:Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: One year ofexperience as an Insurance Specialist I; ortwo years ofexperience in the property and casualty insurance industry as an agentcustomer service representative complaint investigator claims adjuster orunderwriter; ortwo years of experience investigating complaintsfor the Maryland Insurance Administration.
