Position Summary: Provides support in the daily operations of the Victim Services Unit; advocates for victims of crime; provides support services for victims of crime; and serves as a liaison between victims of crime/witnesses to crime to the criminal justice process/system. Essential Duties: - Coordinates and works with law enforcement the City Prosecutors office City Court outside agencies and victims of crime; conducts interviews with victims.
- Assists victims in completing petitions for court orders in securing protective orders and with filing compensation claims.
- Accompanies victims to shelters and/or court; informs them of their constitutional and statutory mandated Crime Victims Rights.
- Compiles data and reviews related reports and correspondence related to the Victim Services Unit.
- Coordinates with community agencies and resources on behalf of Victim Services Unit to obtain services such as legal aid counseling shelter emergency financial help and employment.
- Serves as a liaison for witnesses and victims throughout the criminal justice process; provides emotional support.
- Documents and manages case files.
- Keeps accurate statistical records of victim contacts.
- Conducts SART/IMT and YCCCRT case reviews
- Participates in community events to promote services and resources.
- Attends mandatory training programs.
- Trains volunteers and matches to task.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Optional Duties:
Primary/Backup handler of an Emotional Support Facility Canine assigned to the Victim Services Unit. Those duties include: - Attending and passing a qualified Canine Handler Certification course
- Maintaining the canines wellbeing (food grooming veterinarian visits)
- Housing the canine at employees residence on days assigned the canine
- Responding with the canine to traumatic scenes functions with victims of crimes Department and Grant approved presentations/functions and other City Departments.
Qualifications: Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED is required. A degree in Social Work Criminal Justice Counseling Psychology or a closely related field is preferred but not required; two 2 years of experience working or interning/volunteering in the field of criminal justice social work crisis intervention victim advocacy or case management; or any equivalent combination of education experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Licensing Certification and Other Requirements: Possess a valid Arizona drivers license.
