Job Description

This is a fulltime position starting in September 2025.

The Position:

The Upper School (Grades 712 program at Havergal College is distinguished by opportunities forstudents to develop and learning in an environment that is diverse stimulatingand supportive. Teaching facilities are well equipped and offer brighttechnologyrich environments.

Experienced Intermediate/Senior teachers at Havergal College areconfident in curriculum development and demonstrate an approach to teachingthat reflects theway in which girls learn. They support all learners with diverse strategies andapproaches and are willing and able to use appropriate solutions to learningchallenges experienced by students. Teachers optimize the use of the technologyto support student learning. Classes are engaging and dynamic and teachersgenuinely enjoy what they are doing and are approachable availableknowledgeable genuine and supportive.

As members of the Upper School faculty teachers engage in the work ofthe Upper School in a collegial and supportive manner. They demonstrate anunderstanding of the importance of parents as partners in their daughterseducation by maintaining open and collaborative relationships with parents. As lifelong learners they demonstrate a commitment to actively seekingprofessional development. Teachers actively participate in the life of theschool beyond the classroom.

Specific Accountabilities:

Student Support Responsibilities

  • Whereappropriate conduct direct observation of students of concern asidentified by the classroom teacher or parents and make specificrecommendations and where necessary suggest a psychoeducational assessment.
  • Identifystudents with specific learning disabilities who require outside support andhelp parents acquire that support by providing information and other resources.
  • Reviewpsychoeducational reports writing maintaining and reviewing individual learning plans for students identified as having learningdisabilities.
  • Support students in applying for accommodations required for standardized tests (EQAO AP PSAT SATACT).

Departmental AdministrativeResponsibilities

  • Reviewand analyze clinical assessment reports (eg. psychoeducational assessmentsdevelopmental assessments occupational therapy assessments languageassessments etc) to determine and implement appropriate accommodations and programming support.
  • Writemaintain and review Individual Education Plans for students with identifiedneeds.
  • Determineappropriate referrals for further assessments or clinical supports and liaisewith outside service providers (eg. Occupational Therapists SpeechLanguagePathologists Social Workers).
  • Workwith Admissions to review student applications and facilitate studenttransition.

Communication withStakeholders

  • Actin consultation and collaboration with faculty to make recommendations on howto adjust their instructional environmental and assessment strategies to meetthe specific learning needs of their students.
  • Facilitatea variety of meetings with various stakeholders including PsychEd Debriefs IEP Review meetingsIndividual Progress meetings SchoolBased Team meetings and Grade Progressmeetings.
  • Maintainregular communication with parents by providing update reports and suggestingstrategies to support the student at home.
  • Communicate with Guidance Social Work Heads of School and Head of the Upper School to ensure full wrap around student support.
  • Maintainconfidential student records and documentation.

ProfessionalResponsibilities

  • Activelyparticipate in professional growth activities (membership in professionallearning communities completing professional reading setting professionallearning goals).
  • Maintainconsistent professional supporting and encouraging relationships withcolleagues.
  • Participatein the life of the school through duties and cocurricular activities.

Qualifications Knowledge and Experience

  • Teacherqualifications (Intermediate/Senior) with a minimum of 5 years relatedteaching experience required.
  • SpecialEducation Specialist (or equivalent) qualifications required.
  • Mastersof Education in Special Education or related area an asset.
  • Understandingof the confidential nature of the work associated with this position.
  • Expertisein special education planning implementation and assessment.
  • Knowledgeof differing learning needs and strategies for supporting all kinds of learners.
  • Strongorganizational skills.
  • Selfstarterable to work in a selfdirected manner appropriate to changing needs.
  • Strongunderstanding of differentiation.
  • Understandingof how girls learn.
  • Understandingof how to use data to make decisions to improve student success.
  • Abilityto mentor faculty in building a culture of capability.
  • Abilityto build relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Problemsolverin challenging situations.
  • Currentknowledge of assessment practice in Ontario.
  • Technologicallyliterate with the ability to build and maintain student databases and records.
  • Understandingof the unique aspects of working in an independent educational institution.
