Job Description

The Mobility Monitoring & Analysis team provides services to support the Citys requirements for data collection management and visualization. This position resides in the Business Intelligence and Analytics section within the Service Innovation and Performance branch. In the Monitoring Field Worker position reporting to the Field Operations Supervisor you have an exciting opportunity to support the team goals by assisting with the acquisition of mobility data for policy development performance measurement traffic and transit planning and roadway safety improvements. Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve results in a respectful inclusive and serviceminded way.

What will you do

  • Use power tools and various other handtools to install and remove mobility data collection equipment on roadways and at intersections.
  • Working at heights in accordance with the site characteristics of each location.
  • Establishing safe work zones and adhering to safety practices to ensure a secure work areas for the safety of team members and to mitigate risks
  • Program data collection equipment download and upload data files from the portable mobility data collection devices on a daily basis
  • Work closely with team members to ensure efficient and coordinated equipment deployment and retrieval
  • Prepare organize and record information from field sheets or a data application and inputting the information on Google Sheets and other electronic formats
  • Implement daily field data collection plans
  • Operate city owned vehicles in a safe manner and in accordance with the Citys driving policy
  • Identify equipment and supplies needed to meet data collection schedules
  • Review field work for completeness accuracy and adherence to data collection standards
  • Ensure that all work is performed safely and in accordance with the SOPs (Standard
  • Operating Procedures) FOIP and OH&S standards
  • Recommend improvements to data collection procedures to enhance the integrity of collected data optimize safety protocols and increase the overall efficiency of data collection processes
  • Other related duties as required
  • Completion of Grade 9 or equivalent or higher and related coursework;
  • 6 months of experience in transportation/mobility data collection and record keeping

Assets:

  • Grade 12 is an asset
  • experience in a transportation monitoring field and construction/flagging experience are assets

Skills required for success:

  • Basic knowledge of data collection/safety principles standards and practices including knowledge of the City of Edmontons roadway networks and traffic control setups
  • Knowledge of and skill in systems such as Microsoft Office Google Workspace and business applications related to transportation data collection technologies such as Highway Data Management (HDM) and TRAXPRO
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to perform technical duties including the ability to read and interpret data/diagrams
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
  • Ability to meet and communicate effectively with the public including strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform medium to heavy manual labour such as lifting traffic data collection equipment and climbing/descending ladders in various weather environmental and traffic conditions

Conditions of employment:

  • Compliance with the City of Edmontons safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as wearing steel toed boots is a requirement for this position
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position

Up to 2 temporary parttime positions for up to 10 months

Hours of Work: 0 to 33.75 hours per week. Typical hours of work will be between 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. This position may include weekend coverage.
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Salary: $29.918 $35.917 (Hourly)
