Support Change as a Case Worker Intensive Bail Initiative Program (TAIHS)

Are you committed to empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to make positive choices and reconnect with culture family and community TAIHS is seeking a compassionate and motivated Case Worker to join our Intensive Bail Initiative Program. In this important role you will provide culturally safe strengthsbased case management to support young people navigating the youth justice system. Youll work closely with families community services and stakeholders to promote healing accountability and longterm success. If youre ready to be part of a team creating real change wed love to hear from you. This is a FullTime fixed term position up to June 2028.

Your Contribution

The Case Worker will be involved in both the Intensive Bail Initiative and Bail Support Program supporting young people and their families in meeting their bail condition requirements. You will provide case management assistance to the young people enrolled in the program working collaboratively with bail support officers other case workers and the practice lead. As a key point of contact for the Youth Justice CoResponders you will actively engage with Youth Justice services to ensure seamless throughcare for families interacting with the Youth Justice coresponders.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and operate case management support to clients by receiving referrals from stakeholders predominantly Youth Justice for young people on Bail
  • Completing intake and assessments with young people referred to the program
  • Liaising with the Practice Lead in relation to all client related matters; including client needs engagement issues observations or concerns
  • Develop individual safety plans
  • Maintain necessary client and operational information including logbooks case notes and case plans
  • Ensure secure management of all program files and compliance with applicable privacy legislation and policies
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with clients and their families by
  • Nurturing and supporting clients while assisting in the development of their skills
  • Provide information support and advocacy for clients accessing the service
  • Provide feedback and participate in strength and needs assessments
  • Participate in the delivery of programs both structured and unstructured aimed at meeting the needs of the individual or group
  • Keep young people safe whilst on program and in the care of the service
  • Ensure that dangerous objects alcohol illicit or potential weapons are not brought into the workplace
  • Monitor young peoples bail requirements
  • Organise transport and support for young people and their families to attend court when required
  • Provide afterhours crisis support to young people and their families particularly upon referral from the coresponders
  • Have clear communication practices within the Bail Support and Intensive Bail Initiative team
  • conduct comprehensive handovers with afterhours staff to ensure consistency with supports to clients and families
  • Work to ensure effective case liaison with other program workers and other involved providers
  • Provide regular activity and evaluation reports as required by Manager and/or Practice Lead

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum Cert IV qualification/s relevant to the field youth work or a related field of discipline
  • Previous experience in a relevant industry service or an equivalent level of expertise and experience to undertake the range of activities required
  • Demonstrated experience/positive engagement when working with persons of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds and an understanding of cultural competency
  • Demonstrated Experience of working with young people and their families
  • Understand the historical social cultural and economic issues effecting the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and young people today
  • Highly developed communication skills with the ability to liaise consult and negotiate positive outcomes in collaboration with clients internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to operate within a case management model
