Help protect one of Floridas most vital resources water with a career at theSouthwest Florida Water Management District (District).

The District is a government agency whose mission is to protect water resources minimize flood risks and ensure the publics water needs are met. We serve a population of nearly 6million people in westcentral Florida as directed by state law.

Join our Engineering and Project Management Bureau

Support the Districts Design and Construction Management (DCM) Bureau by managing multiple tasks and priorities in fastpaced teamoriented environment. Here is your opportunity to assist the DCM section by performing tasks for project managers engineers and management while gaining realworld work experience. Tasks will include activities such as field work administrative processing calculations GIS processing map creation database entry construction site visits and data collection. The successful candidate will report to several project managers and will need to be a selfstarter to experience the diversity of work in which the Engineering and Construction sections perform. Must be willing to work both in the office and field to meet the requirements of this position and experience what an Engineer in the Engineering & Project Management Bureau does on a daily basis.

Compensation: $16.00 hourly

Essential Functions

  • Work includes elements of the watershed management program: Topographic Information Watershed Evaluation Watershed Management Plan Implementation of best Management Practices and Watershed Updates.
  • Conducts field work to support watershed management planning projects.
  • Responds to questions from the public and consultants regarding surface water models and flood elevations.
  • Use Excel ArcGIS programming and other software to perform calculations to solve engineering problems.
  • Compile data perform appropriate analyses developer produce reports maintain databases and prepare data for presentation
  • Assist with processing project manager and section manager requests
  • Assist in the evaluation of project management processes project cost effectiveness of completed existing proposed or potential District programs
  • Maintain a positive and selfmotivated attitude towards conducting data entry and developing tables and charts

Working Conditions

Most work is conducted in a standard office environment. This position requires the ability to perform continuous repetitive tasks (to include keyboarding) with one or both hands. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds. Must be able to operate a District vehicle for two hours or more at a time. May be exposed to extremes in temperature and humidity as well as a variety of pests including mosquitoes and accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Work environments vary by assigned business unit.

Required Credentials for Design and Construction Management Student Intern

  • Be at least parttime and currently enrolled in High school an accredited college university or other recognized educational or vocational program
  • Maintain a minimum GPAof 2.5 for undergraduate students or minimum GPA of 3.0 for graduate students
  • UploadUnofficialTranscripttoapplication or profile
  • Have the availability to work near the maximum allowable hours weekly
  • Experience with data collection data entry or database management
  • Valid drivers license

Preferred Credentials forDesign and Construction Management Student Intern

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel PowerPoint Word and Visio
  • Experience with data collection data entry or database management
  • Preferred Degrees: Environmental Science Engineering or Project Management
  • Preferred Degree Level: Undergraduate or Graduate

Additional Details

This position is typically scheduled to work no more than 25 hours per week between Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM out of the Brooksville FL office. Schedule is contingent upon the decision of the hiring manager and the successful candidate.

Travel Required

Yes. Infrequent travel using a District vehicle within Districts coverage area
