About Us:

Bidgerdii Community Health Service is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled primary health care service operating in the Rockhampton and Central Queensland region for close to 30 years. The organisation is a bulk billing communitycontrolled health service managed by a Board of Directors who oversee and manage the strategic directions of the service.

Bidgerdii provides comprehensive primary health and wellbeing services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in the Rockhampton and surrounding regions. Bidgerdii collaborates with health and wellbeing partner agencies to enable integrated continuity of care for the community and continue to work to contribute to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health policy and program reform in Queensland.

Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Aboriginal Health Worker to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing culturally appropriate primary health care services for clients of Bidgerdii. The role requires a deep understanding of the social cultural and historical factors that impact the health and wellbeing of Indigenous communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide culturally appropriate health care services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients
  • Conduct health assessments and screenings
  • Provide health education and promotion to individuals and groups
  • Maintain accurate and uptodate patient records
  • Participate in quality improvement activities
  • Attend relevant training and professional development opportunities

The position will be required to meet the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice Board of Australia (ASTIHPBA) registration standards to be considered for registration as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Health Practitioner. Therefore evidence of below will be required:

  • Identity or acceptance of being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
  • Completion of the Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice qualification
  • Professional indemnity insurance
  • Continuing professional development to apply for renewal of registration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of delivering culturally appropriate services including an understanding of the issues that impact on the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a member of a team including the ability to prioritise tasks manage workloads respond to organizational demand and deal with matters of a confidential and sensitive nature.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal and written communication skills including the ability to consult negotiate liaise and communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Practical requirements:

  • Immunisation requirements It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be and remain vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases: Measles Mumps Rubella Varicella Hepatitis B Hepatitis A and Pertussis (whooping cough) during their employment.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certificate.
  • Current Blue Card (Working with Children and young people) or willingness to apply for a Blue Card
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) essential.
  • Satisfactory Police Criminal History Check.
