The Applications Engineering Intern will assist applications engineers and technicians with daily duties with a concentration in material handling systems. Daily duties will/may include assembly modification and testing of various Key Technology material handling and/or optical inspection equipment along with keeping working areas in Applications Engineering laboratory in clean and orderly condition.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist applications engineering lead with assorted tests and experiments on a range of material handling solutions.
  • Design and run experiments to demonstrate/document efficiencies associated with application specific requirements relative to assorted screening and belt solutions.
  • Design and run experiments to optimize product feed to optical sorters.
  • Work with Engineering team to validate process flow models created in LSDyna
  • Assist applications engineering lead with optimizing existing material handling solutions.
  • of design modifications and conceptual designs to allow for rapid prototyping and determination of concept feasibility CAD modeling and detail drawing creation in Solidworks
  • Follow up with manufacturing on applications engineering related work orders
  • Draw concise logical written conclusions from experiments based on data analysis
  • Must have a good working technical discipline and is capable of quickly researching new information as needed for specific projects.
  • Document and upload reports to applicable databases.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to think outside the box in crafting solutions for the particular application.
  • To assist with preparation for customer demonstrations as instructed by the Engineer in charge.
  • Performs lightduty metal fabrication and welding tasks.
  • To pick up and transport product from shipping/ receiving to the lab for testing.
  • To remove product from the lab for proper disposal after testing.
  • Arranges boxes material and hand trucks or other industrial equipment in a neat and orderly manner.

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled as a full time student at an accredited University in pursuit of an engineering degree prefer Mechanical Engineering Engineering Mechanics or Mechanical Engineering Technology degree; at least a Junior in standing.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Familiarity with CAD (SolidWorks AutoCad) programs highly desirable.
  • Selfdirected and motivated
  • Able to communicate effectively at a factory floor level
  • Technical report writing skills
  • Comfortable with working in a factory setting
  • Willing to work weekends and/or holidays as needed.


Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Mixed environment of office and factory setting. To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs daily and 50 lbs on occasion. These requirements are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.
