Infection Preventionist

Position Summary / Career Interest:
This position requires an onsite presence at our Great Bend location.
The Infection Preventionist is trained in hospital epidemiology principles and is responsible for the surveillance analysis interpretation and reporting of hospital acquired infections (HAI); educating employees about infection prevention; and the development of health system policies and procedures to ensure rigorous infection control standards that meet Joint Commission OSHA Centers for Medicaid/Medicare Services Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other nationally organized agencies recommendations and requirements.
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Demonstrates competence in the areas of critical thinking interpersonal relationships and technical skills.
- Demonstrates the ability to follow directions solve problems and make safe judgements in a variety of situations.
- Interacts in a courteous professional manner with evidence of conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrates collaborative working relationship and works under the direction of the Infection Prevention and Control Nurse Manager
- Performs daily review (surveillance) of positive patient cultures and assists unit nurses in identifying and placing patients in appropriate transmission based precautions.
- Performs basic analysis and presents infection control data
- Notifies local state and federal authorities about reportable diseases as required
- Conducts infection control risk assessments for construction and renovation projects equipment inspection and pest control
- Educates individuals and groups about the risk prevention transmission and control of infection diseasespecific care appropriate precautions and appropriate assessments
- Investigates manages and conducts surveillance of suspected and confirmed outbreaks of infection
- Serves as first line contact for nursing and house staff questions regarding transmissionbased precautions and exposures to transmissible agents.
- Takes initiative to address issues at point of care or to provide feedback to the department leadership to assure competent safe care and quality outcomes.
- Participates in interdisciplinary performance improvement strategic planning and program assessment activities
- Participates in the revision of infection control policies based on national guidelines and current literature
- Takes an active role in department and hospital Infection Control Joint Commission preparedness activities
- Participates in local regional and national infection control related educational offerings and meetings.
- Must be able to perform the professional clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience- Associates Degree in Healthcare Administration a healthcare related field Epidemiology or a related field of study from an accredited college or university.
- 1 or more years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Education and Experience- Bachelors Degree in Healthcare Administration a Healthcare related field Epidemiology or a related field of study from an accredited college or university.
Required Licensure and Certification- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) American Heart Association (AHA)
Preferred Licensure and Certification- Associate Infection Prevention and Control (aIPC) Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC)
Knowledge Requirements- Critical thinking and problemsolving abilities.
