Job Description
The City of Independence Parks & Recreation Department is committed to excellence in programming facilities and service while improving the quality of life within our community. The Pool Supervisor in cooperation with the Aquatics Manager works to keep the health and safety of the pool patrons and pool staff the top priority. Supervision and leadership communication facility checks and customer service are essential areas of focus for this position.
Days Hours & Additional Employment Details:
A pool supervisor is a seasonal position from May 2025 through September 2025. Pool supervisors are generally scheduled to work Sunday Saturday between the hours of 7 AM and 9 PM up to 40 hours a week. There will be weeks throughout the season where working evenings weekends and holidays are required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervision & Leadership
- Monitor Lifeguard Vigilance aid staff in developing more effective strategies
- Adjust Lifeguard Rotations/Zones as needed
- Assist the Aquatics Manager in staff development of skills needed to be effective Lifeguards
- Assist the Aquatics Manager in Lifeguard training and inservice sessions
- During shift supervise and support Front desk Concession and Pool Maintenance staff
- Maintain professionalism teamwork and a safetyfirst mindset
- Work with staff to respond to emergencies administer firstaid
Communication
- Support & encourage Pool Rule Enforcement efforts and consistency
- Revoke swimmer privileges for continuous disruptive behavior
- Contact police/EMS as needed
- Post messages/signage to staff or pool patron as needed for any facility changes
- Utilize PA system as needed
- Complete or review incident reports from injures and water rescues
- Email Aquatics Manager to advise of staff/patron issues needed work orders etc.
- Contact the CPO on duty immediately when pool readings are out of range
- Clear the facility for weather alerts or as required
Facility Checks
- Verify Pool water tests completed at the designated times throughout day and meet state guidelines
- Patrol/Inspect Building and deck at least once every hour and address issues
- Perform a preopening Facility Safety Check
Maintenance
- Oversee and give direction to the maintenance staff on duty
- Assure the facilities are clean and sanitary for public use
Customer Service
- Interact with Pool patrons as needed to ensure their safety and enjoyment of the pool
- Support staff during patrons interactions as needed
- Resolve conflicts or problems as needed

Education:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent (Required)
Certifications
- American Red Cross Lifeguard
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Preferred
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this seasonal job the employee is regularly required to see speak and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; ben; squat; and be able to lift up to 50 lbs when necessary. Employee must be capable of working in both an indoor and outdoor environment under standard Ohio weather conditions.
