The Safety and Security (S&S) office is a 247 operation with front desk support/dispatchers working during College business hours. The uniformed team of Safety and Security consists of a diverse team of led by a Campus Security Lieutenant. Safety and Security strides for professionalism and ethics practicing teamoriented concepts in our daily duties.

There are currently two positions open with two schedules available:
Friday thru Monday with Tuesday Wednesday Thursday off
Monday thru Thursday with Friday Saturday Sunday off

The first candidate to complete the hiring process and receives a start date will have the option of selecting either shift. The department does not have a shift bidding or shift shakeup process. While officers may change schedules and schedules become available with turnover applicants should expect the schedule they are hired into to be their permanent schedules.

The College supports the safety and training of Campus Security Officers through the following mechanisms:


The Campus Security Officer will be responsible for protecting life and property enforcing college/state rules regulations laws and policies. Emergency procedures and security requirements performed by the Officer provides safe access to campus (for students staff faculty and visitors) as well as assistance in medical emergencies and various services.

Primary responsibilities include the following:
  • Enforce state laws within campus jurisdiction and parking regulations (based on WAC) issue citations assist with traffic control and flow provide directions to students
  • Provide campus surveillance via vehicle/foot patrol for irregularities (i.e. damage fire prowlers etc. lock/unlock buildings
  • Respond to medical emergencies calls for assistance or service and reports (of theft fire and burglar alarms) administer first aid as needed
  • Respond to accidents/vehicle crimes gather evidence/photos locate witnesses complete incident reports
  • Perform occasional outdoor tasks such as installing traffic signs snow removal battery jumpstarts unlocking car doors and minor vehicle problem troubleshooting
  • Provide security escorts for various departments/events including financiallyrelated transactions
  • Perform other duties as assigned of a similar nature and level

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:


Licensing Requirements:
  • Valid Washington State drivers license; clean driving record (maximum of one 1 moving violation in the last twelve 12 months) no suspension/revocation of license (for reckless driving hit and run leaving an accident scene failure to appear DUI or other vehiclerelated felony in the last five 5 years)
  • No previous felony convictions
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification OR ability to obtain upon offer of employment
NOTE:If selected for an interview you will be required to submit a current driving abstract (no more than one 1 month old) to meet the licensing requirement.

Knowledge Of:
  • Incident Command Systems (ICS 100 & ICS 200
  • Operation and experience with a handheld radio
  • Microsoft Office applications including Excel Outlook PowerPoint and Word programs
  • Washington Administrative Code (WAC) and the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) governing access to building/grounds and rules of behavior
  • General safety precautions and fire hazards first aid and law enforcement basics
  • Use and operation of surveillance/security systems burglar alarms and fire suppression systems

Skill In:
  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
  • Writing/editing/proofreading clear and concise materials resulting in effective oral and written communication with individuals inside and/or outside of the College
  • Observing and detecting suspicious situations meeting emergencies and employing effective courses of action
  • Multitasking with strong attention to detail while working under strict deadlines for completion
  • Operating department vehicles in a safe and legal manner
  • Maintaining confidentiality and composure in an office or outdoor setting with frequent inperson interactions
  • Handling volatile situations involving irate individuals and remaining calm in emergency situations
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of students staff and the public in a friendly courteous and helpful manner
  • Ability to problem solve and use deescalation skills to reach a desired outcome in various situations
  • Ability to be impartial to discern situations without bias
  • Displays high levels of conflict resolution skills sets

Conditions of Employment

Physical Work Environment:
The Campus Security Officer generally works without direct supervision and has regular contact with College staff students and campus visitors. It is essential to be able to meet the physical demands of walking/standing (indoors and outdoors) and sitting in/driving a patrol car for prolonged periods of time. The physical ability to perform outdoor tasks such as working in inclement weather both on foot and in a vehicle crouch and lift up to 50 lbs. installing traffic signs snow removal battery jumpstarts unlocking car doors and minor vehicle problem troubleshooting is required. Other requirements include ability to meet the physical demands of sitting for periods of time at a desk/computer workstation and using repetitive arm hand and finger movements. In this position you will also be required to respond to emergency situations that include but are not limited to performing CPR assisting in building evacuations and being involved in physical altercations with violent persons. You are also required to wear your body armor and gear for the duration of your shift while outside of the Campus Security Office.

Terms Of Employment/Salary:
This position is allocated to pay range 46 under the Washington State Office of Financial Management higher education salary schedule. Salary placement for new employees is determined by the College. This position works 40 hours per week with schedule dependent upon department needs. Hiring of this position is contingent on available funding as determined by the College President.
