The Alaska Court System (ACS) is recruiting for a Chambers Judicial Assistant 1 (salary range 12 to support the Utqiagvik Superior Court Judge. This highly responsible position serves as judicial assistant and as the case manager/incourt clerk for probate and childrens cases (including child in need of aid and delinquency matters). The successful applicant will perform a variety of administrative and secretarial support tasks.
Applicants transferring from another State of Alaska agency or applicants with prior work experience or education in the legal field may receive consideration for advance step placement.



The Position
  • Type organize and distribute correspondence judgments orders and other documents authored by the judge;
  • Schedule meetings appointments and coordinate the calendar assignments of the judge;
  • Receive and screen telephone calls and visitors while applying tact and discretion in responding to inquiries;
  • Submit timely reports such as pay affidavits judicial leave reports and listings of pending decisions;
  • Make travel arrangements for the judge as well as reviewing annual travel and compensation reports;
  • Assist law clerks by providing training in the use of the case management system motion tracking and providing technical support to judicial officers and law clerk;
  • Assist the Clerk of Court in various assigned duties as workload permits;
  • Act as case management clerk for all childrens and probate cases. Open new cases calendar hearings process orders process pleadings monitor files for action and accuracy and ensure confidentiality where applicable.

The Work Hours
Fulltime court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a onehour lunch break.

This position is in the partiallyexempt service; the incumbent serves atwill to the hiring authority.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate.

AND

Two years of progressively responsible fully qualified work experience as an administrative assistant.

AND

The ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).


Substitution:

Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary paralegal or office skills will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.

A bachelors degree from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.

Twelve months of work experience performing general clerical work that demonstrates work skills equal to those of a Court Case Manager 1 with the Alaska Court System will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.

NOTE: Work experience as a legal administrative assistant is preferred. Positions in this job classification are in the partiallyexempt service and serve atwill to the appointing authority.

WORK HISTORY

EDUCATION
