Job Description
The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontarios capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair improper or fraudulent practices to foster fair efficient and competitive capital markets and confidence in the capital markets to foster capital formation and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk. This mandate is performed through policy operational and enforcement activities. The OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development.

The studentworking in the Innovation Office will assist with tasks including:
- conducting research (e.g. comparative research into leading practices or new developments in other jurisdictions) and preparing related materials such as presentations reports and memos;
- supporting our OSC LaunchPad team that aims to make it easier for innovative businesses to understand and comply with capital market rules and to help them bring their solutions to market faster and more efficiently;
- supporting our OSC TestLab program that uses regulatory testing and its evaluation to accelerate capital market innovations and new approaches to regulation;
- engaging with the innovation and legal communities.
Role Requirements:
We are looking for a secondyear law studentwith strong communication and analytical skills and an interest in new technology startups and the intersection between technology and law/regulations.
Deeper understanding of the financial services sector and knowledge of capital markets and/or securities law would be considered an asset.
You should have an excellent work ethic and organizational skills and bring enthusiasm to contribute to the goals and objectives of the Innovation Office and the OSC. You are motivated and able to work independently as well as in a dynamic team environment to meet deadlines.
