Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for a Veterinarian Technician for the State Veterinarian office for the Animal Services Division the position is located in the Phoenix office located at 1110 W. Washington Street Ste. 450 Phoenix AZ 85007.

The Animal Services Division protects and improves the health quality and marketability of Arizona animals and animal products by identifying diagnosing and preventing existing and emerging diseases protecting humans from contagious diseases and responding to emergencies. Enforces laws concerning the movement sale importation transport and processing of livestock. Conducts food quality and safety inspections of milk and meat products produced and processed in Arizona as well as egg and egg products produced in or imported to Arizona.

Job Duties:

Job duties to include but not limited to:

Assisting the 2 Assistant State Veterinarians out in the field and/or may be sent solo to collect blood and other samples as directed and will be responsible for the processing packaging and delivery of samples to the airport FedEX or UPS outlets.
Assist the State Veterinarians office on animal disease epidemiology disease surveillance public health and emergency preparedness/response.
Responsible for records management for all National Poultry Improvement Program (NPIP) related programs swine US SHIP program garbage feeder licensing inspections and preparation of associated reports and aquaculture establishments.
Responsible for records management of information covering animal disease quarantines and release letter under the direction of the Veterinarians.
Draft and prepare documents including Administrative Orders and Hold Orders.
Research and preparation of applications for grants biological letters of approval/denial violation letters etc.
Heavy data entry and administrative task.
Maintain Veterinary inventory of diagnostic supplies personal protective equipment and test reagents.
Plan and coordinate meetings for the SVO conduct outreach and education.
Attend trainings and conferences.
Required to drive a state vehicle on official state business and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
General knowledge of federal and state laws rules and import requirements of livestock
Knowledge of entry permit database
Working knowledge of the veterinary field
Knowledge of telephone skills & ability to communicate effectively and professionally with agency personnel industry public and other agencies
Knowledge of computer functions filing and office equipment
Excellent knowledge of customer service techniques
Interpersonal communication techniques
Terminology used in the veterinary field
Computers word processing and data entry
Plan coordinate and establish priorities

Accuracy and attention to detail
Oral and written communication
Excellent organizational skills
Livestock and poultry handling including blood collection and diagnostic sample acquisition
Develop and maintain professional and interpersonal relationships

Accurate data entry

Selective Preference(s):

5 years of office support work
Livestock experience
Bilingual Spanish

PreEmployment Requirements:

Certified Veterinary Technician Licensed Veterinary Technician or Registered Veterinary Technician license.
