Job Summary/Purpose: Provides health care services applying xray energy for diagnostic purposes. Performs limited radiographic procedures as authorized by state law producing images for interpretation by or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Approaches patients and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Provides patient care essential to the performance of these procedures.

Job Responsibility: Perform limited radiographic procedures as authorized by state law producing images for interpretation by or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Student technologist may not perform exams in the emergency department operating room or with portable or fluoroscopic radiographic equipment.

Success Criteria:

a. Students may perform diagnostic radiographic procedures limited to the following anatomical regions: Chest (not to include breast Abdomen (noncontrast procedures only) and Skeletal structures (to include upper and lower extremities limited spine skull and sinuses.

Job Responsibility: Assist technologist with patient flow and radiation safety procedures.

Success Criteria:

Assist with preparation of patients for imaging studies to include aseptic technique positioning and EKG lead placement. Obtain protocols from radiologist and present to supervising technologist. Assures patient clinical history is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner Escort patients back to waiting areas or patient rooms Monitor patient areas with Geiger counter and complete paperwork Assist with quality assurance on all equipment including identification of defective equipment and appropriate reporting. Assist with answering departmental phones Determines and applies radiographic technique exposure factors Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest respecting patient ability and comfort. Immobilizes patients as necessary Operates radiographic equipment

Job Responsibility: Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe patient handling that is appropriate to the age of the patients served: pediatrics adolescents adults and geriatrics.

Success Criteria:

Demonstrate the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs. Demonstrate knowledge growth and development and the ability to appropriately utilize that knowledge in providing care for individual patients. Recognizes and responds to acute and emergency situations providing ongoing assistance to patients under the direction of supervising technologist or RN. May be asked to apply restraints. Communicate observations related to patient activity and other relevant information (i.e changes in patient behavior or symptoms to supervising technologist/RN in an accurate and timely fashion. Demonstrate respect for patient rights and maintains privacy and confidentiality.

Minimum Training and Education:

Enrolled in an accredited college as a SecondYear Radiology student and eligible for SCRQSA license. Temporary certification as a Limited Practice RadiographerGeneral is required to be submitted prior to completion of general orientation. BLS certification is required.

Required Licensure Certifications Registrations: Current Basic Life Support (BLS).

Radiology Student Technologist transition to Radiology Technologist I

Upon completion of the ARRT radiology registry a promotion will be awarded from a student tech position to a vacant radiology technologist position. The promotion wage increase will be based on passing the radiology tech registry. Benefits and sign on bonus will also be awarded if eligible based on position.
