Job Description Global R&D Scientist

Overview

As one of the most innovative companies in the world FMC is looking for a Global R&D Scientist at our Stine Haskell research facility in Newark Delaware. The successful candidate will work independently collectively across business functions supervise and mentor a small team on projects related to the discovery optimization and characterization of safe and sustainable new control technologies & support FMC herbicide discovery and development pipeline. He/she defines scientific approach to problems develops hypotheses tests them to lead projects to logical conclusions.

Responsibilities

The Global R&D Scientist provides strong biological understanding and technical expertise required to generate results showing leadership in herbicide discovery & development process. He/She generates extensive biological results through a series of tiered screens and special tests interprets and reports the results and works closely with crossfunctional teams within FMC and across regions globally to provide technical solutions and maximize business value. Development validation and implementation of new screens and bioassays also complements these activities. The successful candidate should have a good understanding of current and evolving control practices/problems in multiple markets or global regions and cropping systems and will apply this knowledge to the assessment of new herbicide discovery & development active ingredients. The Global R&D Scientist will generate greenhouse and field biological results and integrate this information with mode of action environmental fate crop and metabolism and other attributes generated by multiple technical teams to discover and develop superior new product offerings. The position calls for active networking with FMC regional field development specialists and marketing teams as well as strong interactions with the academic /crop science communities.

Required Education:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant scientific area such as Science Agronomy or Plant Physiology with 45 years agronomic experience.

Qualifications

  • Experience in developing research programs which are technically demanding and effectively integrate critical technologies to apply new technologies broadly
  • Experience in operating in an unstructured environment and define novel research approaches to complex scientific or technical problem
  • Sound understanding of herbicide physiology biology global cropping systems and applied science/field biology/agronomy
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective networks to accomplish work
  • Experience in working as an individual and as an effective team player
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in effectively supervising others
  • Experience in effectively mentoring other employees
  • Strict observance and adherence to required and approved safety procedures
  • Familiarity with organic chemistry nomenclature and physical properties agrochemical site of action and/or soil science as well as skills in data management modeling visualization and interpretation are strong positives.
  • Knowledge of practical control field research or agricultural experience is also highly desirable.
