Public Grants Officer
Save the Redwoods League San Francisco CA or McKinleyville CA
The Public Grants Officer is responsible for managing all aspects of the public grants program for Save the Redwoods League including identifying public funding opportunities developing grant proposals and managing grants received. This position has primary responsibility for implementing competitive grant programrelated funding strategies in coordination with the Director of Public & Institutional Funding the Chief Development Officer and the Chief Programs Officer in support of projects identified in the Leagues annual and longrange plans. This includes managing the Leagues public funding pipeline and calendar developing public funding proposals and monitoring grants through the approval process.
While the Public Grants Officer is a member of the Leagues Development Department and reports to the Director of Public & Institutional Funding the Officer also regularly engages with members of the Leagues Conservation Programs Department and partners with program team colleagues to solicit public agencies identified in the funding plans for individual projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Portfolio Management
- Research public funding opportunities at the federal state and local levels; work with agency staff to align League projects with viable funding.
- Cultivate new and expand existing relationships with public funders and community partners; attend stafflevel agency meetings and Board meetings.
- Coordinate and participate in field tours and site visits with Project Leads.
- Maintain regular communication with public agency staff on grant administration project portfolios guideline review and program development.
- Engage League staff and partners to prioritize projects increase awareness of funding opportunities and share grantrelated best practices.
Proposal Development
- Research write and submit competitive proposals to public/government agencies.
- Coordinate proposal development with staff partners stakeholders and consultants.
- Advise staff on project positioning for public funding eligibility; create and share grant program summaries.
- Collaborate with staff and partners to identify project priorities funding needs and timelines; help develop project budgets and materials.
- Incorporate DEI goals into grant proposals especially through partnerships with focus communities and tribal entities.
Grant Management
- Help implement the Leagues CRM (EveryAction) for grant submissions tracking and stewardship.
- With the Director plan grant pipelines and timelines for multiyear projects; develop tools (e.g. financing strategies Gantt charts) as needed.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure compliance with grant agreements; provide guidance to staff and partners.
- Support Project Leads in submitting reports documentation and amendments with Finance team assistance.
- Coordinate recognition of public funders with Marketing and Development teams (e.g. reports events publications).
Other Duties
- Help build structures timelines and policies for the public grants program.
- Research and share best practices in grant development and management.
- Uphold the highest level of ethical conduct.
- Serve as a public funding and grants resource to League staff.
- Manage consulting grant writers and relevant consultants.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in a related field and/or 5 years of grant development experience or equivalent education/experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and online research.
- Strong research writing and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of government grant programs and application processes.
- Ability to manage deadlines take initiative and work independently.
- Proven ability to coordinate and deliver complex grant projects with teams.
- Experience with conservation/restoration grants and state/federal grant writing.
- Ability to manage contract grant writers.
- Familiarity with key public funders (e.g. CA Coastal Conservancy Wildlife Conservation Board CalFire Forest Legacy etc..
- Personal commitment to nature conservation and the Leagues mission.
- Demonstrated cultural competency; fluency in a second language is desirable.

Work Schedule:
This role is hybrid with a minimum of 12 days onsite in our San Francisco headquarters per week. Our weekly inoffice days are Tuesdays and Thursdays.Additionaldays are based on business needs. North Coast candidates would be required to come to San Francisco on an as needed basis (roughly quarterly).
Compensation & Benefits:
As a fulltime salaried employee you will be eligible for full benefits which include medical dental and vision insurance three weeks of vacation annually plus holidays and a 401k retirement plan currently with an up to 8 company match.
