A traineeship gives you the opportunity to gain a professional qualification while learning both on and offthejob which means trainees learn the right mix of skills abilities and knowledge.

As a Fire Safety Adviser you will be working with a range of people across different Services to ensure that buildings across Fife are safe for residents employees and visitors. You will work within the Health Safety & People Analytics team who are based in HR (Human Resources) and report to the Fire Safety Consultant. You will assist in the provision of competent fire safety advice fire risk assessments training and audits across all Council Services.

During their work and training both inhouse and in their course studies the trainee shall be expected to develop the skills personal attributes knowledge and understanding necessary to carry out the role of a Fire Safety Adviser. This will include the fire safety risk assessments incident investigation general enquiries and advice being part of fire safety improvement projects attending and taking an active part in committees/forums and developing the necessary skills to deliver training to a wide range of audiences.

We have introduced a blended workstyle approach in HR that will include office access days each week with homeworking for the remainder of your working time.

Responsibilities:

This will include fire safety risk assessments incident investigation general enquiries and advice being part of fire safety improvement projects the interpretation of relevant legislation into plain English format attending and taking an active part in committees/working groups and developing the necessary skills to deliver training to a wide range of audiences conducting audits etc. During the Traineeship you will shadow a range of different colleagues in various dedicated training environments i.e. Construction Transportation Health and Social Care Education and Childrens Services Housing Services etc. At the end of the Traineeship you will have an indepth knowledge of fire safety and a broad range of health and safety experience plus 3 years comprehensive practical experience

The Person

These vacancies are restricted to applicants who currently live in Fife. You must also be aged between 20 and 24 at the interview date.

During your Traineeship you will be expected to undertake accredited Fire Risk Assessor training and NEBOSH National General Certificate. The Trainee will therefore be required to commit to a training programme with residential courses and on the job training spanning the 3 years of this Traineeship. This will be both challenging and rewarding and requires maturity and dedication to fulfil the expectations.

You will be enthusiastic have good communication skills good IT and report writing skills and educated to SCQF6 (minimum 2 Highers with one that must be English).

You will need to be selfmotivated able to work independently visiting premises on your own and be able to manage your own to study and learn technical information.

A reasonable level of physical fitness and mobility is necessary as you will be required to inspect whole buildings and take equipment with you to carry out your role. This can also include walking around the surrounding areas of the building as well as reviewing a building internally.
