About the Division:
The Buildings & Grounds Division (B&G) is responsible for the Capitol Campus and Department of Enterprise Services (DES) managed building operations stewardship and historic preservation. B&G provides service to over 42 agencies maintains operates and preserves the 486acre state Capitol Campus in Olympia including more than 28 buildings 18 public monuments over 6000 parking stalls four state parks and a 260acre lake. B&G executes these responsibilities through the following service programs: Facilities Operations Grounds Operations Leadership and Admin Maintenance & Repairs Support Services (Custodial).

About the Opportunity:
The Stationary Engineer will be responsible for monitoring the Capitol Lake Dam operations lake levels and Metasys program during assigned shift. The incumbent will also respond to critical alarms by notifying appropriate staff per documented Office of Financial Management (OFM) procedures. This position serves as the primary afterhours contact for Capitol Campus building emergencies. This role interacts with various staff from trades administrative Washington State Patrol (WSP) Olympia Fire Department (OFD) legislative staff building tenants other state agencies personnel of DES vendors contractors and visitors. This position supports the agencies mission by ensuring a safe and comfortable atmosphere in campus buildings which helps our customers succeed.

The Powerhouse functions are critical to the daily operations of the Capitol Campus. The Powerhouse must be staffed on a 24 hours/day 7 days/week 365 days/year schedule.

This position is recognized as Continuity of Operations Plans (COOP) Designation for Disaster or Emergency Recovery.This means that this position may be required to report to work to support any emergency situations that affect DES owned properties.

Primary contact for afterhours nonemergency calls for Thurston County DES owned facilities
  • Receives prioritizes and dispatches afterhours requests for DES services
  • Works closely with the standby staff evening and weekend custodians and WSP to identify response to calls received

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Preferred/Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of boiler law methods fuels materials and tools used in operation and maintenance of highpressure boilers and associated auxiliary equipment; boiler room safety; heating lighting ventilations power and other related mechanical equipment standard types of automatic control
  • Ability to test and analyze operation of steam boilers and auxiliary equipment; instruct and supervise others; keep records; make written reports; perform heavy manual labor; work under and withstand extremes of temperature
  • Knowledge and experience in chilled water plant operations and maintenance
  • Can be relied upon to achieve excellent results with little need for oversite. Earns the trust respect and confidence of coworkers and customers through consistent honesty forthrightness and professionalism in all interactions
  • Ability to work independently with little or no onsite supervisory direction
Special Requirements
  • Must maintain a valid drivers license free from any serious violations
