The City of Richmond Department of Public Worksis seeking highly qualified candidates to fill multiple Maintenance Worker positions in the Grounds Division. Selected candidates will be expected to work a scheduled shift of Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The incumbent is responsible for performing routine grounds and maintenance duties and assisting with special projects and other required tasks. The incumbents may assist with snow and ice removal; handling traffic control; removing trash maintaining grounds by cutting grass trimming shrubbery and trees raking leaves shoveling snow and removing debris.

• Performing routine grounds and maintenance tasks of designated areas of responsibility
• Completing tasks that require walking lifting pulling and pushing various items to include bulk and brush
• Assisting other personnel in performing various tasks and special projects as required
• Operating a variety of light machines and equipment
• Safely and efficiently controlling traffic in work zones
• Assisting with snow removal as needed
• Performing other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

• Education sufficient for satisfactory job performance
• No prior work experience
• An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• One 1 year of work experience preferred

• Requires a valid drivers License with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia drivers license within 30 days of hire

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Due to the nature of work assignments incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple concurrent tasks with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. The essential duties of this classification may require the ability to regularly stand walk push lift grasp hear see and perform repetitive motions; frequently balance stoop crouch reach pull finger feel and talk; and occasionally climb kneel and crawl. The working conditions may include environmental hazards. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties this classification is considered to be medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally up to 20 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
